DURHAM, NC – The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Winnipeg Goldeyes RHP Matthew Rusch (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week.
The Winnipeg native put together two of his best starts of the season to help the Goldeyes grab a pair of wins. On Wednesday at St. Paul, Rusch pitched his first complete game shutout of the year. He struck out nine and only surrendered three hits in a 7-0 win over the Saints. In addition, Rusch walked just one hitter and never allowed a baserunner to reach second. Rusch finished the performance by retiring the last 12 batters in consecutive fashion.
Rusch followed up his Wednesday night performance with another strong outing on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Falls. In an 8-5 victory over the Canaries, Rusch tossed seven frames and only allowed two runs. The right-hander gave up five hits, walked one and struck out seven to improve to 7-4 on the year. Rusch compiled a 1.13 ERA over his two starts this week with a 0.63 WHIP.
