Amarillo 7, Lincoln 0

The Amarillo Sox jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and went on to shutout the Lincoln Saltdogs. C Chris Grossman – who was 2-for-5 with two RBI — singled in the first run in the second at bat of the inning and two batters latter LF Joe Weik brought Grossman and RF Cory Patton home with a single to center. Patton also went 2-for-5 and he added an RBI later in the game.

The Sox added two more unearned runs before the end of the first-inning rally. Sox DH Jorge Delgado had a team high with three hits and SS K.C. Serna added two more.

Starter Brad Wilson earned the win as he went seven innings and allowed just six hits. For the Saltdogs, 2B David Espinosa went 3-for-4.

 

Newark 8, Laredo 7

In a game where 17 different batters combined for 27 hits the Newark Bears edged the Laredo Lemurs 8-7. Both LF Derrick Pyles and DH Ernie Banks Jr. went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. 1B Mike Gedman also added two hits and RBI. For the Lemurs, SS Jimmy Mojica went 2-for-5 with three RBI and LF Danny Poma was 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Three other Lemurs had two-hit games and all nine batters registered at least one hit.

The Bears took control of the contest with seven runs in the third and fourth innings combined. Starter Mike Ness earned the win and Jorge Vasquez picked up the save.

 

Sioux City 8, El Paso 7

Though they were outhit 15-10, the Sioux City Explorers slid past the El Paso Diablos 8-7. Sioux City took the early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning thanks to back-to-back RBI hits by RF Peter Barrows and 1B Luke Murton.

The Diablos tied the game in the third but the Explorers took back control in the fourth with a four-run rally sparked by SS Leugim Barroso’s two RBI double. Barroso went 2-for-5 and scored twice himself in the game. CF Eliezer Mesa went 3-for-4 and added an RBI.

For the Diablos, RF Welington Dotel had an impressive game as he went 4-for-5 and had three RBI. And four other Diablos had multi-hit games.
