MOORHEAD, MN– The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Chicago Dogs’ P Connor Root (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 10.

Root is now the first Dogs player ever to win either a player or pitcher of the week honor. The 6’ 5” Right Hander was deemed worthy of the distinction after tossing eight shutout innings on June 6 to lead Chicago to a 8-0 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries. In the start, Root allowed just six base runners (four hits and two walks) none of which advanced into scoring position. He also struck out seven batters in the outing.

The Bentley College product is now in his third Independent league since beginning his professional career in 2016 Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic league. Root made six start for the Barnstormers before making the final start of his debut season with the Les Capitales de Quebec of the Can-Am League. The 25 year old remained in the Can-Am League for his entire 2017 season, pitching primarily as a reliever for the Somerset Patriots (13 relief appearance and three starts). In the offseason Root signed with the Chicago Dogs.
