REDS PURCHASE LEMURS’ WILLIAMSON

Fabian Williamson Reds

DURHAM, NC – The 2013 season marked the second for Lemurs LHP Fabian Williamson (pictured) in the American Association. While Williamson was strong last year, posting a 3.63 ERA with Winnipeg, the current season has treated him even better. As a result, the lefty has drawn major league attention, particularly from the Cincinnati Reds.

The Reds purchased Williamson’s contract earlier today, ending what has been a strong season for the southpaw in Laredo. Williamson leaves the Lemurs with a 6-2 record and a 3.42 ERA. He made 12 starts and six relief appearances, pitching one complete game. Williamson also struck out 75 batters in 73.2 total innings pitched.

This is the second year in a row that Williamson has had his contract purchased by a major league organization. The Braves came calling in 2012 and the Panorama City, CA native pitched 50.1 innings for the High-A Rome Braves in the South Atlantic League. Williamson has also pitched in the Oakland, Boston and Seattle organizations from 2007 to 2011. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the 22nd round of the 2006 MLB June Amateur Draft.

Cincinnati is expected to send Williamson to High-A. The 24-year old will pitch for the Bakersfield Blaze of the California League.
