August 30 Evening Recap
Fargo-Moorhead 4, Lincoln 0 – Box
Fargo-Moorhead starting pitcher Tyler Herron and two relievers combined on an eight-hit shutout as the RedHawks beat Lincoln, 4-0. Herron went the first 7 1/3 innings of the game giving up the eight hits while fanning eight batters in a 97-pitch effort. The bullpen duo of Trey McNutt and Casey Weathers tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings to finish off the contest. McNutt notched the win and is 3-3 on the season.
Offensively for Fargo-Moorhead, SS Yhoxian Medina went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI while DH Chris Grayson had a three-run double in a 1-for-4 night. The RedHawks scored all four of their runs in the eighth inning.
With the win, Fargo-Moorhead stays tied atop the wild card standings with Kansas City.
Kansas City 8, Sioux City 2 – Box
After falling behind 2-1 through four innings, the Kansas City T-Bones scored seven runs over the next two frames and rolled to an 8-2 win over Sioux City. Kansas City pounded out 15 hits in the contest with the top of the order leading the way. T-Bones CF Cedric Hunter, 2B Marcus Lemon and 1B Kevin Keyes went a combined 10-for-15 at the plate with four runs scored and seven RBI. Kansas City RF Chantz Mack also chipped in with a solo home run, his 10th of the season.
T-Bones starting pitcher Luis Paula gave up two earned runs in six innings of work to pick-up his seventh win of the season. Paula allowed a pair of walks and four hits to go along with three strikeouts in 92 pitches thrown.
The victory by the T-Bones keeps them tied for first with Fargo-Moorhead in the race for the wild card.
Gary SouthShore 5, Sioux Falls 4 (10 Innings) – Box
Third baseman Kris Goodman doubled home SS Ryan Fitzgerald with the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning as Gary SouthShore defeated Sioux Falls by the score of 5-4. The RailCats had a 4-3 lead going into the bottom of the ninth only to see the Canaries plate a run to tie the score and force extra innings. Gary SouthShore 1B Alex Crosby and LF/CF Reggie Wilson each had 2-for-5 nights at the dish with a run scored while 2B Andy DeJesus added a two-run home run in the second inning.
RailCats pitcher Jorge De Leon allowed the tying run in the ninth inning but still came away with his eighth win of the season. De Leon threw two innings giving up two hits and three walks while fanning a pair of batters.
The win by Gary SouthShore keeps them only one game behind Fargo-Moorhead and Kansas City in the wild card chase.
Wichita 5, Cleburne 1 – Box
The Wichita Wingnuts jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two innings of play and would cruise from there to a 5-1 win over Cleburne. Wichita had three batters with multi-hit games including 1B Brent Clevlen who went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Wingnuts DH Matt Chavez and C Martin Medina each contributed a pair of hits in four at-bats while RF Richard Prigatano added a solo home run, his eighth of the season.
Wichita starter Alex Boshers gave up an earned run in seven innings of work to notch his 11th victory. Boshers allowed a walk and 10 hits to go along with two strikeouts.
For Cleburne in the losing effort, 3B Mitch Glasser scored their lone run in a 2-for-4 night.
Winnipeg 2, St. Paul 0 – Box
The Winnipeg Goldeyes notched their fifth straight victory as they defeated St. Paul by the score of 2-0. Winnipeg starting pitcher Charle Rosario and relievers Victor Capellan and Ryan Chaffee combined on a seven-hit shutout. Rosario went the first 6 2/3 innings giving up a walk and the seven hits while striking out nine batters. Capellan and Chaffee threw the final 2 1/3 innings and allowed only one baserunner. Rosario notched the win and is now 10-5 on the year.
Offensively for the Goldeyes, 2B Casey Turgeon and DH David Bergin each drove in a run while C Mason Katz had a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate. Winnipeg scored single runs in the fourth and ninth innings.
The Goldeyes can clinch the North Division with either a win or a Fargo-Moorhead loss.
