Fargo-Moorhead 6, Winnipeg 2 – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks won their seventh game in a row with a 6-2 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.

Starting pitcher Matt Tomshaw tossed his third complete game of the season and improved to 5-3 as he allowed just two runs of five hits while striking out four batters. The RedHawks backed him up with a strong start as 1B Correlle Prime (3-for-5) hit an RBI single and DH Drew Ward scored when 3B Leobaldo Pina hit into a fielder’s choice in the first; CF Forrestt Allday added an RBI single in the second. Pina plated Prime in the third with a single and, in the fifth, C Nick Kahle hit a sac fly and SS Sam Dexter capped the scoring with an RBI double.

For the Goldeyes, both runs came in the third when LF Jordan George hit a sacrifice fly and DH Dario Pizzano scored after 3B Darnell Sweeney singled.

 

Milwaukee 2, Chicago 1 – Box Score

The Milwaukee Milkmen inched closer to securing a playoff berth with a 2-1 win against the Chicago Dogs on Sunday afternoon at Impact Field.

The Milkmen maintained their 1.5 game lead on the Sioux Falls Canaries, who sit in second place, but are now four games clear of the St. Paul Saints and the Winnipeg Goldeyes (tied for third) with just nine games left to play in the season. LF Adam Brett Walker II (3-for-4) continued his hot streak at the plate as he was responsible for both runs on Sunday with two solo shots – one in the first and the game-winning run in the eighth. Walker now has six homers in his last six games and 20 for the year.

The Dogs’ only run came in their first at-bat of the game when CF Michael Crouse (2-for-5) hit a lead-off homer.

 

Sioux Falls 3, St. Paul 2 – Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries edged the St. Paul Saints 3-2 to kept themselves squarely in second place in the American Association standings.

The Canaries scored the game’s opening run in the top of the first inning when 3B Damek Tomscha (2-for-4) doubled home CF Logan Landon (3-for-4). St. Paul tied things up in the second when 1B John Silviano singled to plate LF Chuck Taylor. The Canaries took the lead back in the fourth when DH Jabari Henry (2-for-3) hit a sac fly to score Tomscha and they added a crucial insurance run in the seventh as 1B Grant Kay scored after SS Andrew Ely hit into a fielder’s choice.

The Saints pulled back to within one run in the bottom of the inning as 2B Mikey Reynolds doubled to allow Silviano to score but that was the final run of the day. Starting pitcher Tyler Danish earned the win for working six innings and allowing one run on five hits while striking out three. Reliever Keaton Steele closed things out in the ninth to record the save.
