MOORHEAD, MINN – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have sold the contract of RHP Trey McNutt to the Oakland Athletics, the American Association announced. McNutt is the 21st player American Association player sold to a Major League organization in 2018.
McNutt was 7-8 with a 5.21 ERA in 20 starts for the RedHawks in 2018. It was the first time since 2012 that McNutt was used as a starting pitcher. He pitched 121.0 innings and allowed 121 hits while recording 130 strikeouts. McNutt finished second in the American Association in strikeouts.
McNutt began his professional career in 2009 in the Chicago Cubs organization after being selected in the 32nd round of that year’s draft by the Cubs out of Shelton State Community College (Ala.). He spent seven seasons in the Cubs chain, followed by a year with the San Diego Padres organization. McNutt signed with the RedHawks in 2017 and was 4-3 with a 5.10 ERA and four saves in 38 relief appearances.
