Gary Southshore 6, Sioux Falls 5 (Final – 10 innings) – Box
The Railcats topped the Canaries on Thursday night after holding off a late, ninth-inning surge from the Sioux Falls ball club, the Railcats won in extra innings. The Railcats took a 3-0 lead in the first after a RBI double from 3B Kris Goodman that was followed by a two-run error. The Canaries countered with a blow of their own, as they scored once in the bottom half of the inning. The Railcats scored runs in the fourth and fifth inning to make it a four-run game, but the Canaries made it interesting late. After scoring once in the seventh, the Canaries scored twice in the ninth to make it a one-run game. The game headed to extras and LF Reggie Wilson proved to be the hero for the Railcats, as he connected on a RBI single to give his club the lead and the eventual win. RHP Drasen Johnson picked up the win, after allowing three runs (one earned) in the ninth.
Texas 5, Salina 4 – Box
2B Alvaro Rondon had a huge game in the Airhogs narrow victory, as he scored twice and stole four bases. Rondon now has 58 stolen bases on the year. He was aided by a four-RBI effort from RF Denis Phipps. Phipps also contributed three hits and scored a run for the Redhawks. The Airhogs took a 5-1 lead in the seventh before the Stockade scored three runs to make the game close. However, RHP Kevin Hilton pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth and picked up his tenth win of the year. Hilton (1-2) went nine innings, allowed four runs on ten hits and struck out eight batters.
Wichita 7, Cleburne 1 – Box
The Wingnuts cruised to a 7-1 win on Thursday night, taking a shutout into the ninth inning before allowing their only run of the game. LF Brennen Salgado connected on a two-run triple in the third to score the first two runs of the game. 3B T.J. Mittelstadt contributed two RBIs for the Wingnuts in the victory and collected a hit. After scoring three times in the third, the Wingnuts scored once in the fifth and three more times in the seventh as they cruised to victory. RHP Danny Gutierrez pitched five scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season, as he allowed seven hits, walked a batter and struck out three.
Winnipeg 5, St. Paul 0 – Box
RHP Edwin Carl turned in a fantastic outing on Thursday night to drive the Goldeyes to victory, as the right-hander pitched seven shutout innings. Carl (9-4) allowed just four hits and walked only one batter while striking out eight opponents. Carl got plenty of run support, as his teammates scored all five runs in the fourth inning. C Mason Katz produced two of those runs via-home run, his 16th long ball of the season. DH David Bergin and 1B Shawn Pleffner each collected two hits and drove in a run in the victory. The win was the Goldeyes 60th of the season.
Sioux City 9, Kansas City 1 – Box
The T-Bones quickly took a 1-0 lead in Thursday’s contest. After that, it was all Explorers, as the Sioux City ball club scored nine runs unanswered to win the game. DH Tyler Ogle knocked in the first two runs of the game on a double. Ogle finished the game with two hits and contributed three RBIs, picking up his 43rd of the season. SS Nate Samson also collected a multi-RBI game, as he drove in two in the winning effort. RHP Justin Vernia produced a strong pitching performance as he allowed just one run over seven innings. Vernia (3-2) allowed seven hits, walked two batters and struck out three.
