MOORHEAD, MN- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Cleburne Railroaders’ RHP Stephen Johnson has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 11, 2019.
Johnson earned the award after allowing just two runs in 15 innings of work this past week. In the righty’s first start, a 3-1 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries on August 5, Johnson allowed just one run on two hits and one walk while striking out nine in eight innings of work. In his second start of the week, Johnson put up a similar stat line in a 10-1 win over the Sioux City Explorers on August 10, allowing just one run on two hits and one walk while fanning three in seven innings of work. On the season, Johnson is 7-1 with a 2.89 ERA.
The 28-year-old began his professional career in 2012 after being drafted in the sixth round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants. Johnson spent parts of six seasons in the Giants’ organization before moving on to the Cincinnati Reds organization in 2016 where he pitched at the Triple-A level. Johnson went 3-0 with a 2.94 in 2018 while pitching for the Lancaster Barnstormers in the Atlantic League. Johnson began 2019 with the High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League before signing with Cleburne on June 26.
