ABERCROMBIE EARNS FIFTH CAREER PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD

MOORHEAD, MN- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Winnipeg Goldeyes’ OF Reggie Abercrombie has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 11, 2019.

Abercrombie earned the award after hitting .433 with 10 runs scored, 1 triple, 2 home runs, and 6 RBIs this past week. The Player of the Week Award is Abercrombie’s third with the Winnipeg Goldeyes, fifth of his American Association career, and his first since 2016. The league’s home run leader put on a marquee performance in a 13-9 win over the Milwaukee Milkmen on August 10. In the game, Abercrombie went 4-for-6 at the plate, while scoring four runs, hitting a triple, two home runs and driving in three.

The veteran right handed hitter began his professional career in 2000 after being drafted in the 23rd round of the 1999 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Abercrombie made his major league debut in 2006 with the Miami Marlins and played 111 games that season, batting .212 with 5 home runs and 24 RBIs. Abercrombie played 35 games with Miami the next season before playing 34 games with the Houston Astros in 2008. In 2008, Abercrombie batted .309 with two home runs and five RBIs.
