Gary SouthShore 2, Fargo-Moorhead 1 (11 Innings) – Box
Gary SouthShore C Wilfredo Gimenez scored the game winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 11th inning as the RailCats defeated Fargo-Moorhead in a walk-off, 2-1. The RedHawks carried a 1-0 lead into the ninth only to see Gary SouthShore score the tying run on a CF Chase Harris fielder’s choice and send the game into extra innings. RailCats 2B John Holland went 3-for-4 on the night with a run scored while LF Reggie Wilson and DH Alex Crosby each had a pair of hits. Gary SouthShore pitcher Ryan Fritze tossed a scoreless 11th inning with two strikeouts to collect the victory. For Fargo-Moorhead in the losing effort, 1B Mitch Delfino went 3-for-5.
Lincoln 4, Sioux Falls 1 – Box
Lincoln RF Trever Adams hit a two-run home run and starting pitcher Seth Webster tossed seven solid innings in leading the Saltdogs to a 4-1 win over Sioux Falls. Adams had a tremendous at the plate for Lincoln going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and three RBI. Saltdogs C Dashenko Ricardo chipped in with a pair of doubles in three at-bats while DH Curt Smith and 1B Tommy Mendonca each plated a run. Webster notched his first victory of the season as he gave up only an earned run on five hits and struck out eight batters. The bullpen duo of Fabio Martinez and Cameron McVey each tossed a shutout inning with McVey collecting the save.
Wichita 9, Texas 8 – Box
Third baseman T.J. Mittelstaedt hit a two-run single in the top of the ninth inning to give Wichita the lead for good as the Wingnuts held off a late Texas charge to win, 9-8. The top of the order led the way for Wichita as the 1-2-3 hitters of CF Harrison Kain, 2B Christian Stringer and DH Brent Clevlen went a combined 6-for-12 at the plate with six runs scored and a RBI. Mittelstaedt chipped in a 1-for-4 game with two runs scored and two RBI while 1B Matt Chavez added a pair of hits and three runs batted in. Wingnuts pitcher James Campbell tossed a scoreless inning of relief to pick-up his first win of the season. Campbell allowed only a hit and struck out one. For the AirHogs, who left the tying run on third base to end the game, leadoff hitter Alvaro Rondon had a 2-for-4 night with three runs scored and a RBI.
Kansas City 7, St. Paul 2 – Box
Kansas City scored six runs over the third and fourth innings to take a 7-0 lead and would roll on to a 7-2 victory over St. Paul. The T-Bones collected 11 hits as a team with four batters having multi-hit games. Kansas City 2B Zach Walters went 2-for-4 with two RBI while RF Chantz Mack and LF Patrick Brady each had 2-for-3 games with a run scored. T-Bones C Leonardo Rojas and SS Eddie Newton also contributed back-to-back home runs in the four-run fourth inning. Kansas City starter Scott Carroll allowed two earned runs over seven innings pitched to earn his second win of the year. Carroll gave up two walks and seven hits to go along with a pair of strikeouts.
Winnipeg at Sioux City (Postponed)
The contest between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Sioux City Explorers was postponed due to a team-wide illness affecting the Goldeyes. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday, August 1 at 5:05 PM.
