RAILCATS DOUBLE UP WINGNUTS TO WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT

Gary SouthShore 4, Wichita 2 – Box

Gary SouthShore continued to stay red hot as they won their fifth straight in a 4-2 decision over Wichita. The RailCats scored two runs in the seventh inning to take the lead for good and added an insurance run in the eighth. Gary SouthShore leadoff hitter Colin Willis and 1B Alex Crosby each had 3-for-4 nights at plate and combined to drive in three runs. RailCats starting pitcher Charle Rosario tossed seven strong innings in winning his second straight decision. Rosario gave up two earned runs on five hits with a pair of walks and five strikeouts. The righty is now 9-3 on the season.

Texas 6, Kansas City 3 (Completion of suspended game from August 19) – Box

The Texas AirHogs tallied three runs in the top of the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie and defeat the Kansas City T-Bones, 6-3 in the completion of the suspended game from yesterday. Seven of the nine hitters in the Texas lineup collected at least a hit including 3B Cory Morales who went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. AirHogs 1B Devon Rodriguez chipped in three hits and scored a run while RF Nick Akins drew a pair of walks and scored two runs. Texas pitcher Tyler Ihrig tossed four innings of relief in picking up his second win of the season. Ihrig allowed an earned run on three hits and struck out two batters.

Kansas City 4, Texas 3 (Regularly scheduled game/7 Innings) – Box

Kansas City SS Vladimir Frias scored the game winning run on an error by Texas LF Leon Byrd in the bottom of the seventh inning as the T-Bones won in a walk-off, 4-3. Frias had two hits on night, including a home run, along with two runs scored and two RBI. Kansas City DH Anthony Gallas added a solo home run while CF Tyler Massey collected two hits in four at-bats. T-Bones pitcher Mark Haynes threw a scoreless seventh inning and notched his four victory on the year. Haynes gave up a hit and struck out two in the four batters he faced. Designated hitter Michael Hur went 1-for-2 with two runs scored in the loss for the AirHogs.

Fargo-Moorhead 4, St. Paul 3 – Box

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored three runs in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead and that proved to be the difference in the game as they defeated the St. Paul Saints, 4-3. Fargo-Moorhead CF Kes Carter and 1B Dustin Geiger led the way offensively as each went 2-for-4 with a run scored. RedHawks C Charlie Valerio added two hits and two RBI while RF K.D. Kang launched a solo home run, his 14th of the season. Fargo-Moorhead starter Brian Ernst notched the victory and evened his record at 3-3 with the club. Ernst gave up two earned runs on seven hits in 7 2/3 innings pitched.

Lincoln 13, Sioux Falls 5 – Box

The Lincoln Saltdogs pounded out 19 hits in the contest and rolled to a 13-5 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries. Lincoln had seven batters with multi-hit games including DH Curt Smith who went 3-for-6 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Saltdogs 1B Austin Gallagher and RF Jon Smith each collected three hits in the contest and combined to plate three runs and drive in five. Lincoln starting pitcher Ryan O’Sullivan nabbed the win and improved his mark to 4-3 on the year. O’Sullivan gave up three earned runs on four hits in six innings of work. For Sioux Falls in the loss, 2B Darwin Perez hit a two-run home run in the third inning.

Sioux City 3, Winnipeg 1 – Box

Sioux City starting pitcher Jake Kuebler and two relievers had a solid performance on the mound in leading the Explorers to a 3-1 win over Winnipeg. Kuebler threw the first six innings of the contest and gave up only an unearned run on six hits while fanning three batters. The bullpen duo of PJ Francescon and Rob Wort shut the door on the Goldeyes the rest of the way as they combined to throw three scoreless innings allowing a hit and three walks to go along with three strikeouts. Francescon took home his third victory while Wort earned his fourth save of the season. Offensively for Sioux City, C Ralph Henriquez and 1B Ino Patron each went 2-for-4 in the game with Patron launching a home run. The Explorers plated single runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings.

Joplin 2, Laredo 0 (7 Innings) – Box

Joplin starting pitcher Santos Arias and reliever Carlos Fuentes combined on a four-hit shutout as the Blasters defeated the Laredo Lemurs, 2-0 in a rain shortened contest. Arias went the first five innings allowing the four hits and a walk while striking out four batters. The righty earned the victory and is now 1-1 on the year. Fuentes finished off the final two innings of the game giving up only a walk and fanning a pair of batters. Joplin 3B Brandon Tierney led the way offensively going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. The Blasters scored single runs in the first and sixth innings.
