EXPLORERS POUND OUT 17 HITS IN WIN OVER GOLDEYES

Sioux City 16, Winnipeg 1 – Box

The Sioux City Explorers scored early and often in this one as they rolled past the Winnipeg Goldeyes by the score of 16-1. Sioux City tallied 10 runs over the first four innings of play and pounded out 17 hits in the contest. Explorers SS Nate Samson went 2-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI while RF Michael Lang added three hits and three runs. Sioux City 1B/C Brendan Slattery also chipped in with three hits, two runs and three RBI. Explorers starting pitcher Cody Forsythe received plenty of run support and collected his 10th win of the season. Forsythe allowed an earned run on two hits with six strikeouts in six innings pitched.

Sioux Falls 2, Lincoln 1 – Box

Sioux Falls starting pitcher Dylan Thompson was sensational on the mound in leading the Canaries to a 2-1 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. Thompson threw a complete game allowing only an unearned run on four hits with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts. The righty picked up the win and is now 4-1 on the season. Offensively for Sioux Falls, leadoff hitter Ethan Chapman and 2B Darwin Perez each had two hits on the night with Chapman scoring a run and Perez driving in one. The Canaries tallied single runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Laredo 8, Joplin 5 –  Box

The Laredo Lemurs plated four runs in the seventh inning to break open a tight contest and defeat the Joplin Blasters by an 8-5 final. Laredo RF Denis Phipps led the way offensively going 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. Lemurs 1B Jesus Posso drove in three runs in a 3-for-4 night while DH Ty Morrison drew a walk and scored twice. Laredo pitcher Luis Pollorena tossed 2 1/3 innings and nabbed his fourth victory. Pollorena allowed an earned run on two hits along with a walk. For Joplin in defeat, 1B Geraldo Valentin went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored.

Fargo-Moorhead 4, St. Paul 1 – Box

Fargo-Moorhead starting pitcher Tyler Alexander was simply outstanding in helping the RedHawks defeat the St. Paul Saints by a 4-1 score. Alexander threw 151 pitches in the complete game effort giving up an unearned run on four hits with three walks and 15 strikeouts. The southpaw is now 11-3 on the season and is tied for the league lead in wins with St. Paul’s Mark Hamburger. Fargo-Moorhead LF Brian Humphries went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while C Charlie Valerio drew two walks and plated a run. The RedHawks scored a pair of runs in the fifth and eighth innings.

Gary SouthShore 4, Wichita 1 – Box

The Gary SouthShore RailCats jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings of play and would never back as they topped Wichita by the score of 4-1. Gary SouthShore RF Chase Harris had two hits in four at-bats along with a RBI with DH Frank Martinez adding a triple and two RBI. RailCats starting pitcher Taylor Black tossed six solid innings en route to evening his mark at 6-6 on the year. Black gave up an earned run on seven hits and fanned five batters. For the Wingnuts in the losing effort, leadoff hitter Christian Stringer and LF T.J. Mittelstaedt each had 2-for-4 nights.

Texas 3, Kansas City 2 (Suspended/Rain – Bottom 4)

The contest between Texas and Kansas City was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the fourth inning with the AirHogs leading 3-2. It will resume play on Saturday, August 20 at 5:05 PM with the regularly scheduled game to follow.
