POLSTON, CLEBURNE TAKE DOWN TEXAS

Cleburne 6, Texas 3 – Box

After going down 3-0 in the fifth inning, the Railroaders scored four runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 4-3 lead en route to a three-run victory on Thursday night. 1B Geraldo Valentin and SS Alex Polston both homered in the win, as they drove in two and three runs respectively. C Mitch Abeita collected three hits and scored twice in the win. RHP Alberto Rodriguez went seven strong innings, as he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out seven batters. RHP Winston Abreu struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 16th save.

Sioux City 5, Lincoln 3 – Box

The Explorers outlasted the Saltdogs on Thursday night to win 5-3 in the opening game of the series. Two Saltdogs homered in the victory, including 2B Jordan Bennie, whose solo shot gave the team a 1-0 lead. 3B Eudor Garcia also homered in the win, as he hit a two-run shot in the second to give the Explorers a 3-1 lead. LHP Cody Forsythe pitched seven tough innings to earn the victory. Forsythe (4-7) allowed two runs on eight hits and struck out two batters while walking two. RHP P.J. Francescon picked up his 15th save of the season as he allowed a run on three hits in an inning of work.

Kansas City 7, Salina 2 – Box

Thursday’s contest between the T-Bones and Stockade was never in doubt, as the T-Bones took a 7-0 lead into the eighth inning. The T-Bones scored once in the second, four times in the fourth, once in the fifth and once in the seventh before the Stockade added a run each in the last two innings. Three T-Bones homered in the win, including 1B Kyle Petty. Petty hit his seventh homer of the year and also collected three hits while scoring twice and knocking in two runs. RHP Gabe Perez threw 8.1 innings in the victory as he allowed two runs on nine hits and struck out seven batters.

Sioux Falls 7, St Paul 0 – Box

The Canaries took the opening game of the series on Thursday night as they picked up their 35th win of the season. A six-run second inning sparked by a grand slam off the bat of RF Burt Reynolds gave the Canaries all the run support they would need. 3B Patrick Fiala blasted a solo shot in the sixth inning to extend the lead to seven runs in the shutout victory. Fiala collected two hits and scored twice for the Canaries. RHP Miles Nordgren blanked the Canaries over nine innings to earn the shutout victory. Nordgren (5-5) allowed two hits, walked two batters and struck out three in the win.
