OSBURN HAS STRONG DEBUT IN WICHITA WIN

Wichita 4, Texas 2- Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts’ pitching staff looked sharp on Sunday in a 4-2 win over the Texas AirHogs.

Wingnuts’ starter Corbin Osburn, who was signed early in the day, allowed just one run on three hits while striking out three and walking two in his five innings of work.

Wichita struck first, scoring one on an RBI groundout by Isaiah Aluko in the bottom of the second. The AirHogs tied the game in the next frame via a run scoring double-play. Abiel Nieves delivered the only hit for the Wingnuts in the bottom of the third, but it was a solo-home run that brought the score to 2-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Leo Vargas moved the game to 3-1 with a bases loaded RBI single.

Wichita was shutout in the bottom of the fifth to end their scoring streak, but Aluko picked up his second RBI in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI triple to score John Nester, who reached on a walk.

James Campbell pitched a scoreless sixth and Evan Sanders pitched a scoreless seventh for the Wingnuts.

Texas Scored on a two-out RBI single by Ryan Wagner in the top of the eighth. In the next at-bat, Chu Fuja was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Daniel Tillman was able to end the threat by striking out Chen Chen after coming in for Brady Bowen.

Tillman also pitched a scoreless ninth to record the save.

 

Winnipeg 6, Sioux Falls 3- Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes scored four late to defat the Sioux Falls Canaries 6-3 on Sunday.

Sioux Falls jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring one in the top of the first on an RBI double by Chris Jacobs that scored Chris Grayson and scoring another in the following inning on an RBI single by Aaron Gretz.

Winnipeg answered by scoring in consecutive innings as well. Grant Heyman picked up an RBI in the bottom of the third with a bases loaded walk and Victor Cruzado drove in Jordan Ebert with a single in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.

The Canaries reclaimed the lead in the top of the seventh with a solo-home run by Burt Reynolds, but it was short lived. David Bergin gave the lead back to the Goldeyes by hitting an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh and later scoring in the inning on an RBI single by Kevin Garcia. Winnipeg added two insurance runs in the eighth, before Victor Capellan closed the game and picked up a save by pitching a scoreless top of the ninth.

Shane Dawson was awarded the win after giving up three earned on eight hits while striking out five in seven innings of work.

 

Lincoln 9, Fargo-Moorhead 4- Box Score

Angel Reyes slugged the Lincoln Saltdogs to a 9-4 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Sunday.

The RedHawks’ Devan Ahart scored in the bottom of the first on a Tommy Mendonca single and drove in Joe DeLuca in the second to give Fargo-Moorhead a 2-0 lead entering the top of the third. Then, Reyes tied the game with his first of two home runs on the day, driving in Brant Whiting in the process.

Brandon Jacobs hit a two-run home run in the next inning to give the Saltdogs the lead and Angel Reyes hit his second two-run home run in the fifth to bring the lead to 6-2.

Reyes wasn’t done, scoring in the top of the seventh on a Chase Simpson double after walking earlier in the inning. In the bottom of the frame, Ahart, who hit two home runs of his own the night before, homered to cut the lead to 7-3.

Lincoln scored two in the top of the ninth and Fargo-Moorhead scored one in the bottom of the frame before being retired.

Tyler Herron picked up the win against his former team, giving up three earned on eight hits while walking two and striking out two in 6.2 innings of work.

 

Kansas City 8, Chicago 6- Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones edged the Chicago Dogs by a score of 8-6 on Sunday.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Kansas City’s Nick Torres drove in Dylan Tice with an RBI double. Johnny Davis added another run for the T-Bones by driving in a runner in the next inning. Chicago cut the lead to one on a sacrifice fly by Trey Vavra in the bottom of the sixth, but the T-Bones extended the lead with a two-run home run by Cal Towey in the following frame. However the Dogs tied the game in the bottom of the frame with a three-run home run by Kyle Gaedele.

Kansas City answered again in the top of the eighth, scoring two to reclaim the lead. Chicago cut the lead to one by scoring one in the bottom of the eighth, but the T-Bones put the game out of reach with a Keith Curcio two-run home run in the top of the ninth.

Tommy Collier was awarded the win, giving up four (three earned) in seven innings of work. Francisco Gracesqui pitched the eighth and the ninth to record the save.
