Sioux Falls 6, Winnipeg 5 (10 Innings) — Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries survived a late surge from the Winnipeg Goldeyes and scored in the top of the 10th to take a 6-5 extra-inning win.
The Canaries built a 5-1 lead after the top of the fourth inning – three of those runs coming on a double from RF Chris Grayson in the third — but the Goldeyes never went away. Winnipeg eventually tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning when it loaded up the bases and SS Andrew Sohn (2-for-4) was hit by a pitch.
After a scoreless ninth, the Canaries’ first two batters in the 10th were retired as well before DH Jabari Henry doubled. Grayson was intentionally walked and then 1B Chris Jacobs (2-for-4) singled to right to allow Henry to score the game winning run. In the bottom of the inning, Sohn made it as far as third base before a 9-2-5-3 putout ended the threat.
Kansas City 4, Chicago 2 — Box Score
The Kansas City T-Bones turned 14 hits into four runs as they took care of the Chicago Dogs 4-2 on Saturday night.
The T-Bones never trailed on the night as they struck first in the top of the second and added two more runs in the third as RF Nick Torres hit an RBI double and scored on a 1B Cal Towey single. Chicago scratched one run in both the fourth – a 1B Trey Vavra solo shot — and fifth innings but the T-Bones kept them off the board the rest of the way. 2B Dylan Tice and Towey each had three hits for the T-Bones while CF Johnny Davis and DH Zach Walters added two apiece.
For Chicago, Vavra, 3B Matt Dean and DH Josh Goosen-Brown each had two hits.
Sioux City 7, Cleburne 1 — Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers held the Cleburne Railroaders to just one run despite allowing 10 hits in a 7-1 win Saturday night.
Sioux City never trailed in the contest as it took the lead in the bottom of the second inning with a two-RBI single from RF Michael Lang. C Dylan Kelly added an RBI single in the third and Sioux City put things away in the bottom of the eighth with four more runs. In the eighth, LF Luis Durango (3-for-4) had an RBI single, CF Jay Austin drew a bases-loaded walk, SS Nate Samson lifted a sac fly and Lang scored on a wild pitch.
The Railroaders’ lone run came in the top of the fourth as 3B Angelo Gumba (3-for-4) singled to plate Levi Scott.
Fargo-Moorhead 11, Lincoln 6 — Box Score
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks powered past the Lincoln Saltdogs 11-6 in a game where the two squads combined for 30 hits.
The RedHawks tallied 17 hits from eight different batters and five of those hitters recorded multi-hit nights. CF Devan Ahart had a tremendous night at the plate as he went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and hit a pair of home runs. 2B Maikol Gonzalez and DH Keury De La Kruz each added three hits and De La Kruz had a team-high four RBIs including a solo home run in the fourth inning.
For the Saltdogs, all nine batters had at least one hit and 3B Chase Simpson was one of four batters to record a pair of hits. He had two RBIs on the night as he doubled and hit a home run.
Wichita 15, Texas 3 — Box Score
The Wichita Wingnuts scored eight runs in the first four innings and added seven more in the sixth on the way to a 15-3 win against the Texas AirHogs.
Eight of the nine batters that went to the plate for the Wingnuts came away with hits and six of them had more than one. 1B Abel Nieves led the way, going 4-for-6 with four RBIs while 2B Logan Watkins and CF Zach Nehrir weren’t far behind as they each had three hits and two RBIs. 3B/LF Tony Thomas, C John Nester and SS Leo Vargas added two hits apiece.
For Texas, 1B Chu Fuja had two of his team’s five hits and LF Dillon Thomas had a pair of RBIs.
Gary SouthShore 16, St. Paul 7 — Box Score
Both the Gary SouthShore RailCats and the St. Paul Saints jumped off to hot starts on Saturday night but the RailCats’ start was much stronger and ultimately too much for the Saints to overcome. When the dust settled on the 31-hit affair, the RailCats earned a 16-7 win.
Gary tallied 19 hits in the win and had five different batters each had three-hit games. RF Colin Willis and SS Andy DeJesus were two of those hitters with a trio of base knocks and they had four and three RBIs, respectively. Six other RailCats each had one RBI including 1B Andy Paz, LF Reggie Wilson and CF DK Carey – who each had three hits.
For the Saints, DH Jayce Boyd went 3-for-4 with and RBI and SS JJ Gould went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
