DURHAM, NC – The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that St. Paul Saints LHP Cole Nelson (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week.
Nelson delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday. The St. Paul lefty pitched a complete game shutout against Fargo-Moorhead, helping the Saints to a 6-0 victory. Nelson struck out eight and gave up just four hits and one walk in the performance.
Strong starts by Nelson have become somewhat of a trend in St. Paul. With Wednesday’s shutout, the southpaw is working on a streak of 18 consecutive innings without surrendering a run. The last time Nelson gave up a run was on June 1st against Quebec. As a result of his recent success, Nelson owns the second-best ERA in the American Association. In his last start alone, the left-hander saw his ERA drop 75 points to 1.78.
