Milwaukee Earns Doubleheader Sweep

Milwaukee Milkmen 9, Winnipeg Goldeyes 2 – Box Score

IF David Washington hit a pair of homers to lead Milwaukee to a 9-2 victory over Winnipeg in the first game of a double header Saturday.

Washington hit two home runs, bringing in five runners to lead the Milkmen. OF Adam Brett Walker II added a double and a home run, bringing in two more RBI. OF Brett Vertigan and IF Logan Trowbridge added an RBI.

On the mound,  pitcher David Holmberg threw six innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits.

IF Raul Navarro  recorded the lone RBI for the Goldeyes in game one off a double. Pitcher Joey Gonzalez pitched four innings, allowing eight runs.

 

Milwaukee Milkmen 6, Winnipeg Goldeyes 3 – Box Score

OF Adam Brett Walker II  and IF David Washington  continued their strong days at the plate in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader, leading Milwaukee to a 6-3 victory over Winnipeg. 

Game two went into extra innings tied at 3. In the eleventh inning, Walker doubled to right, bringing in Logan Trowbridge, and Washington brought in Walker and himself on a two-run home run.

Relief pitcher Karch Kowalczyk pitched in the bottom of the eleventh, sealing the victory without allowing a run for Milwaukee (10-7).

DH Logan Hill went 1-for-4 with a RBI-double. IF Dakota Conners recorded an RBI-single.

Ken Frosch recorded the loss for Winnipeg (5-12), giving up the two out double to Walker. 

 

Gary SouthShore RailCats 10, Chicago Dogs 5 – Box Score

Gary SouthShore struck for three runs in the opening frame and didn’t look back in a 10-5 victory over Chicago Saturday.

Chicago starter Jonathon Crawford walked five and gave up three runs, recording one out in the loss. At the plate for Gary SouthShore (10-8), IF Tyler Van Marter and IF Paul Caulfield hit home runs. Van Marter recorded two RBI. IF Hayden Schilling brought in three runners while picking up one hit. 

RailCat starter Trevor Lubking struck out five over five and a third innings. 

IF K.C. Hobson carried a lot of the workload offensively for Chicago (10-8). Hobson recorded three hits, three RBI and three runs scored Saturday.

 

Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 5, Kane County Cougars 1 – Box Score

A complete game on the mound for Fargo-Moorhead lead the RedHawks to a 5-1 victory over Kane County Saturday.

Starter Kevin McGovern struck out 10 batters and gave up one run in a complete game victory for the RedHawks (12-5). At the plate, Catcher Dylan Kelly recorded two RBI on one hit. OF Nick Shumpert hit a solo home run.

IF Gavin LaValley recorded a solo home run to be the lone Kane County (8-9) run. Koby Bishop recorded the loss, striking out two and giving up three runs.

 

Sioux City Explorers 9, Lincoln Saltdogs 6 – Box Score

Five long balls between the Explorers and Saltdogs led to a explosive 9-6 Sioux City victory Saturday.

IF Jose Sermo hit two home runs, bringing in five runs for the Explorers (11-5). DH Sebastian Zawada hit a homer as well, bringing in two RBI. Tyler Beardsley recorded the win on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings. 

DH Forrestt Allday and IF Ryan Long hit home runs for the Saltdogs (8-8). Allday drove in a total of three runners on two hits and Long one runner on two hits. Carson Lane recorded the loss, giving up six runs over four and a third innings.

 

Kansas City Monarchs 11, Cleburne Railroaders 7 – Box Score

The Kansas City Monarchs exploded for four runs in the top of the 10th inning to take an 11-7 win over Cleburne. 

Kansas City (7-8) hit four home runs in the game. Darnell Sweeney, Jan Hernandez, Casey Gillaspie and Morgan McCullough each recorded one long ball. Hernandez tallied three RBI, and Sweeney and Gillaspie two RBI each.

Carlos Diaz struck out two in one inning to pick up the win. 

OF Noah Vaughan hit a three-run home run to lead the Railroaders (7-10). IF Alay Lago added two RBI on three hits. Colton Pogue recorded the loss, giving up a run without recording an out. 

 

Sioux Falls Canaries 15, Houston Apollos 3- Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canary bats came alive in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, scoring 15 runs in a seven inning win over Houston.

IF Trey Michalczewski went 3-for-4 with five RBI and a home run for the Canaries. Catcher Shamoy Chrstopher added four RBI on a 2-for-4 day. Taking the win Saturday was Carlos Pimentel, striking out seven over six innings. 

IF Ramon Villa hit a solo home run to lead the Apollos. Taylor Zeutenhorst added a pair of hits, including a home run, and two RBI. Nick Beardsley recorded the loss, giving up nine runs over three innings. 

 

Houston Apollos 12, Sioux Falls Canaries 11 – Box Score

Both teams score three runs in the seventh inning, but a comeback falls short for the Canaries, giving Houston a 12-11 victory and a split of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Alvaro Gonzalez went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI for the Apollos (3-14). Hudson Biledeau added two hits and three RBI. Matt Cronin earned the win, pitching three innings of work.

Logan Landon picked up two hits and three RBI for the Canaries (10-7). Mike Hart hit a home run and drove in two more. Eddie Medina took the loss, giving up six runs over three and a third innings.
