Explorers survive late Saltdog rally

Sioux City Explorers 10, Lincoln Saltdogs 8 –Box Score

Lincoln was able to drive two runs across in the ninth, but were unable to complete the comeback, and the Explorers escape with a 10-8 victory.

DH Sebastian Zawada, IF Nate Samson and OF Chase Harris drove in two runs each for the Explorers (12-5). Each player hit a home run, as well as teammate IF Jose Sermo. Patrick Ledet recorded the win, striking out four over five innings. Matt Pobereyko recorded the save.

DH  Forrestt Allday  recorded two hits and two RBI for the Saltdogs (8-9).  IF Curt Smith drove in two runs on one hit. Pitcher John Richy allowed seven runs over five innings in the loss. 

 

Kane County Cougars 10, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 5 –Box Score

Three Kane County batters registered two RBI Sunday, leading to a 10-5 victory over Fargo-Moorhead.

IF Luis Roman went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a home run. OF Jeffrey Baez recorded two RBI, hitting a home run and scoring twice. Catcher Cody Young drove in two runs on a base hit. Pitcher Christian DeLeon pitched three shutout innings to claim the win. 

IF Manuel Boscan went 4-for-5 at the plate, driving in three runs. Catcher Kevin Krause and IF Correlle Prime drove in one run each. The losing pitcher for Fargo-Moorhead, Gage Hinsz, allowed six runs. 

 

Sioux Falls Canaries 16, Houston Apollos 7 –Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canary offense had another strong day at the plate Sunday, striking for 16 runs in a 16-7 victory over Houston.

OF Nick Gotta went 2-for-3 with five RBI for the Canaries (11-7). OF Zane Gurwitz went 3-for-5 and drove in two more runs. Eight of nine batters scored, and eight of nine drove in at least one run. Pitcher Ty Culbreth pitched seven innings, striking out six in the win.

Catcher Hudson Bilodeau went 2-for-5 with two RBI for the Apollos (3-15). IF Ian Yetsko drove in two runs. Pitcher Yosmel Naranjo  recorded the loss, giving up nine runs, seven earned.

 

Chicago Dogs 6, Gary SouthShore RailCats 1 –Box Score

Six shutout innings for the Chicago bullpen led the Dogs to a 6-1 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats Sunday.

 Jake Dahlberg, Kevin Marnon and Justin Goossen-Brown combine for six shutout innings with Dahlberg recording the win. He worked four innings, striking out five for the Dogs (11-8). At the plate, Catcher Ryan Lidge went 3-for-4 with two RBI. 

OF MJ Rookard drove in a run to tally the lone RailCat (10-9) run. Pitcher David Griffin allowed four runs, three earned over four innings. 

 

Cleburne Railroaders 12, Kansas City Monarchs 2 –Box Score

A strong start and balanced offense led Cleburne to a 12-2 victory over the Kansas City Monarchs. 

Michael Gunn struck out seven over seven innings to record the win for Cleburne (8-10). IF Osvaldo Martinez went 5-for-6 with four RBI. OF Zach Nehrir went 2-for-3 with three runs driven in. 

IF Darnell Sweeney hit a two run-double for Kansas City (7-9). Nick Travieso pitched five innings, striking out six and allowing five runs.
