Milkmen Inch Closer to North Division leader

Adam Brett Walker II launched his 31st home run of the season and drove home a pair, David Holmberg pitched into the seventh, and the Milkmen (56-40) gained ground on their north division competition with a 5-2 win over the Saltdogs (51-45).  Walker opened the scoring in the first for Milwaukee with a run scoring single before he was sent home on a Cole Sturgeon double.  Brett Vertigan added a two-run single in the fourth before Walker’s solo shot in the fifth gave him 97 RBI on the season.  Justin Byrd had an RBI hit for Lincoln.

 

Winnipeg 13 Chicago 11

In a game with 34 combined hits, it was the Goldeyes (50-45) edging the North Division leading Dogs (59-37) 13-11 on Thursday night.  Kyle Martin hit his 30th home run of the year for Winnipeg while teammates Tyler Hill and Deon Stafford also homered.  K.C. Hobson homered and drove in four for Chicago while Harrison Smith and Danny Mars also had multi-RBI games in defeat.

 

Kane County 5 Gary SouthShore 1

Ben Allison tossed a complete-game on 115 pitches as the Cougars (44-51) beat the Railcats (38-58B) 5-1 on Thursday night.  B.J. Lopez broke the scoreless tie in the fourth with a two-run homer for Kane County and after Gary scored in the seventh on an RBI groundout, the Cougars answered in the eighth with three runs on homers by Tony Rosselli (two-run) and Lopez (solo).

 

Cleburne 6 Houston 3

D.J. Peterson hit a grand slam, Ramon Hernandez drove home his 100th run of the season, and the Railroaders (54-42) beat the Apollos (15-81) 6-3 on Thursday night at the Depot at Cleburne Station.  Trailing 1-0 in the third, Peterson hit an 0-1 pitch out for the eventual game-winning grand slam for Cleburne.  Hudson Bilodeau scored two runs and knocked in the other for Houston in the loss.
