Sioux City 7, Kansas City 6 (10 Innings) — Box Score

Nine innings weren’t enough to decide a winner in Sioux City on Monday night but the Explorers pulled out a 7-6 in win the tenth against the Kansas City T-Bones.

In the bottom of the eighth, Sioux City trailed 6-4 but CF Jay Austin (2-for-5) quickly changed that with a two-run home run. Neither team threatened in the ninth and Reliever Patrick Schuster sat the T-Bones down in order (two via strikeout) in the top of the 10th. In the bottom half, LF Luis Durango hit a one-out single, stole second and took third when Austin reached on an error. In the next at bat, SS Nate Samson also reached first base on an error and Durango scored the walk-off run in the process.

For the T-Bones, 1B/LF Nick Torres went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Wichita pitching staff took care of business from there. Reliever Felix Carvallo threw the eighth and reliever James Campbell worked a perfect ninth to pick up his first save.

For the Railroaders, starting pitcher Jared Mortensen took the hard-luck loss as he threw a complete game and gave up the one run on four hits while striking out seven. At the plate, CF K.C. Huth went 2-for-4.
