Mcdonald, Caldera Come Away With Weekly Awards

DURHAM, NC – The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Wichita Wingnuts INF Jared McDonald (pictured) and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks RHP Alex Caldera have been named this week’s Pointstreak Batter and Pitcher of the Week.

McDonald had one of the hottest weeks the American Association has seen so far this season. The Wichita infielder hit .591 (13-for-22), helping the Wingnuts win five of their six games. McDonald played a key role in those wins, too. He scored Wichita’s game-winning runs on back-to-back days. On Wednesday, the Wingnuts walked off with the victory when McDonald came home on a sacrifice fly. The next night, he scored on a single in the top of the ninth to break a tie on the road against Sioux Falls. McDonald also had at least one extra-base hit in all five wins, finishing with five doubles and a triple.

Caldera won both his starts this week for the RedHawks to improve to 3-1 on the season. In his first outing, the right-hander held the Canaries scoreless over six innings. He surrendered just two hits in the start and struck out six. Later in the week, Caldera pitched in a tight, low-scoring contest against Winnipeg. In game two of a doubleheader, Caldera kept the Goldeyes to two runs on four hits through five innings. Between his two starts, Caldera allowed just two runs on six hits over 11 innings of work to help Fargo-Moorhead pick up a pair of wins.
