Amarillo 9, Gary SouthShore 5 – Box
Every batter in the Amarillo Sox lineup connected for at least one hit in the Sox’ 9-5 win against the RailCats from Gary SouthShore. 1B Joe Weik scored twice, added two RBI and was 2-for-4 with a homerun. The roundtripper was Weik’s first of the season. 2B KC Serna also had a pair of RBI in the game. All told, five Sox had two-hit games. In contrast, the RailCats had just one player with a multi-hit game. RF Mike Massaro was 2-for-4 and scored twice. Massaro and 1B Steve Liddle both had triples Monday night.
Wichita 9, El Paso 2 – Box
The Wichita Wingnuts’ starting pitcher Ryan Hinson scattered four hits over eight innings and the bats behind him provided more than enough run support as the Wingnuts downed the El Paso Diablos 9-2. Hinson gave up both of the El Paso runs but was still the winner as his teammates racked up 12 hits. RF David Amberson had a team-high three hits in four at bats. 1B C.J. Ziegler was one of three Wingnuts to have a two-hit game and Ziegler had a homerun and three RBI. 2B Jake Kahaulelio also had two hits and an RBI.
Laredo 2, Grand Prairie 1 – Box
The Laredo Lemurs took a pitcher’s duel 2-1 from the Grand Prairie AirHogs on the road behind an absolutely stellar performance from starter Mark Serrano (pictured). Serrano went 8.2 innings, carrying a no-hit bid into the sixth, and allowed just one run on two hits while striking out nine batters. AirHog starter Derek Blacksher was impressive in his own right as he pitched eight innings and allowed just two runs on six hits and struck out six batters. For Laredo, 1B Mike Sheridan and 3B Garrett Rau provided the two RBI.
Kansas City 9, Sioux City 4 – Box
The top half of the Kansas City T-Bones order was dominating at the plate as the T-Bones blasted past Sioux City 9-4. The first four hitters – led by CF Kennard Jones’ 4-for-5, two-run, two-RBI performance – racked up 11 of the T-Bones 17 hits. 1B Trevor Coleman added three hits in five at bats and an RBI. Number nine hitter SS Felix Molina had a team-high RBI with a three-run homerun in the third inning. The last man in the Sioux City, Brian Bistagne, order also had a nice game going 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Starter Aaron Meade was credited with the win for his six-inning start.
Winnipeg 5, Sioux Falls 1 – Box
The Winnipeg Goldeyes took an early lead and never let go as they beat the homestanding Sioux Falls Canaries 5-1. Goldeyes 1B Casey Haerther, who was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, moved DH Leonard Davis to third with a single and Davis scored on the play due to an error for the first run of the game. Haerther scored later in the inning after stealing third base. The Goldeyes didn’t score again until Haerther hit a solo homerun in the eighth inning. Winnipeg added another two runs in the ninth which were more than enough as the Goldeyes pitchers gave up just one run in the game. Starter Justin Garcia threw 7.1 innings and gave up the only run, which was earned, as he picked up the win.
Fargo-Moorhead 3, Lincoln 1 – Box
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks start Jake Laber provided his squad with a quality start and the bullpen took care of the rest as the RedHawks shut down the Lincoln Saltdogs 3-1. Laber went 6.1 innings and gave up just one unearned run on three hits and the three relievers behind him finished off the Saltdogs without allowing another hit. Fargo 3B Ronnie Bourquin went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored and 2B Dionys Cesar also had two hits and a run. For the Saltdogs, 2B David Espinosa had the best night at the plate as he had two of the teams three hits.
St. Paul, 8, Rockland 5 – Box
The St. Paul Saints climbed out of a 4-2 hole with back-to-back three run innings and went on to top the Rockland Boulders 8-5. The Saints trailed by two runs going into the top of the seventh inning when they turned on the jets. 2B Brad Boyer started things in the seventh with a single that brought home a pair of runs. After advancing on a balk, Boyer scored in the next at bat when 1B Craig Brazell singled. The Saints put the game out of reach in the eighth with an RBI single from C Dwight Childs and a two-run homerun by SS Adam Frost. Frost and Brazell both registered a game-high three hits.
