Cleburne Railroaders infielder Kyle Martin and Kane County Cougars starter Konnor Ash won the American Association’s Rawlings batter and pitcher of the month for May, the league announced Sunday.
Martin is the top run producer in the league, leading the Association with eight home runs and 25 runs batted in to go along with a .333 average. He’s racked up eight doubles, a triple and eight walks as well.
Martin secured the award with a big end to this week, putting up back-to-back games with two home runs and five runs batted in against Sioux City.
The former Winnipeg Goldeye between 2019-21 is returning to the league after stops in the Mexican League and the San Diego Padres farm system.
On the pitching side, Ash has made five stellar starts to begin his season. Across 30 innings he’s got a 1.20 ERA with a 2-1 record, 39 strikeouts and just three walks.
He’s gone at least six innings in every start but one, with his last start being seven shutout innings against Winnipeg in a Miles Wolff Cup Final rematch.
This is Ash’s first year in the league after spending the last three seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
Rawlings is the official baseball of the American Association.
