LIND HITS WALKOFF HOME RUN FOR CANARIES

Sioux Falls 7, Sioux City 6Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries walked off on the Sioux City Explorers 7-6 on a solo home run from 2B Sam Lind in the bottom of the ninth inning.

That blast was Lind’s only hit of the game but he and 3B Carlos Mendez and LF Chris Duffy each had two RBI on the night. Mendez and Duffy each also had two-hit games. The Explorers tied up the game in the top of the eighth after 3B Tommy Mendonca and C Todd Jennings each had RBI singles. Mendonca went 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI and a run scored. 1B Andres Perez had a game-high four hits in five at bats.

Reliever Alan DeRatt picked up the win as he struck out the side in the top of the ninth inning.

 

Gary SouthShore 5, Winnipeg 3Box Score

With a five-run spurt in the fourth and fifth innings, the Gary SouthShore RailCats took care of the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-3.

Winnipeg opened the scoring with run in the top of the fourth but the RailCats responded in the bottom of the frame when DH Ryan Babineau tripled in 2B Zac Mitchell and then scored when C Craig Maddox bounced out to the second baseman. SS Ryan Brockett had an RBI single later in the inning. LF Donnie Webb led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run for the Goldeyes and the RailCats responded again with another RBI from Babineau and an RBI single from Maddox. The Goldeyes scored again in the ninth but couldn’t complete the rally.

For the game, seven different RailCats had one hit and Brockett went 3-for-3. For the Goldeyes, 2B Brock Bond. Starting pitcher Stephen Hiscock tossed a complete game for the RailCats and allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out nine batters.

 

Amarillo 7, Wichita 5Box Score

Eight different Sox registered at least one hit and five of them had multi-hit games as Amarillo topped Wichita 7-5.

As a team, the Sox racked up 15 hits and they were led by three-hit games from C Jeff Farnham and CF Jason Martin. Three Sox – SS Travis Weaver, 3B Kyle Bellows and 2B Kevin Mahoney – had two hits and Bellows added a pair of RBI. The win was credited to Sox starter Clayton Tanner as he went seven innings and allowed three runs on just five hits. Reliever Randy Hamrick picked up the save for closing out the ninth with a pair of strikeouts.

For the Wingnuts, 1B David Espinosa and CF Jake Luce each went 2-for-3 with a runs scored and a walk.

 

St. Paul 3, Fargo-Moorhead 2Box Score

The St. Paul Saints took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning and held that score for the remainder of the game as they edged the RedHawks of Fargo-Moorhead for their eighth win in a row.

The Saints opened up the game with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning but the RedHawks responded with a run in both the first and second innings. In the top of the third LF Willie Cabrera scored the game-winning run on a double to centerfield from 3B Henry Wrigley. Wrigley was 2-for-4 on the night with a pair of RBI and Cabrera had a team-high three hits. On the mound for the Saints, starter Nick Barnese earned the win for 6.1 innings of work in which he allowed two runs – one earned – on seven hits while striking out eight. Reliever Mikey Mehlich recorded a four-out save.

For the RedHawks, SS Zach Penprase and 2B C.J. Retherford each had three hits and Penprase had the team’s lone RBI.

 

Kansas City 14, Lincoln 12Box Score

With six runs in the top of the ninth inning, the Kansas City T-Bones claimed a shootout with the Lincoln Saltdogs 14-12.

The T-Bones trailed 12-8 heading into the ninth inning but the six runs they scored on five hits in the frame put them comfortably in front. DH Nick Schwaner, C Brian Erie and CF Robby Kuzdale each had RBI singles in the inning then 3B T.J. Mittelstaedt doubled in a pair of runs and later scored on a wild pitch. Erie was one of three T-Bones to have three hits in the game. Both teams combined for 23 hits in the game and two Saltdogs had four hits. 2B Luis Nunez went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and DH Jon Gaston went 4-for-4 including two home runs and five RBI.

Reliever Patrick Mincey picked up the win despite allowing three runs on three hits in the eighth inning and reliever Kris Regas earned the save for working a scoreless ninth.

 

Grand Prairie 6, Laredo 3Box Score

The Grand Prairie AirHogs worked their way out of an early three run deficit to claim a 6-3 win over the Laredo Lemurs on Friday night.

Laredo scored in the first inning on a solo home run from LF J.P. Ramirez and then added two more runs in the third on a double from RF Denis Phipps. Phipps had a game-high three hits but his RBI double was the last time the Lemurs would cross the plate. The AirHogs got on the board in the fourth inning with an RBI single from RF Frazier Hall but they didn’t take the lead until the next inning when 1B Jason Botts blasted a three-run home run. The AirHogs never trailed again.

Hall was one of four AirHogs to have a two-hit game but he and Botts were the only Grand Prairie batters to register an RBI.
