SAINTS DOWN CANARIES TO WIN SEVENTH STRAIGHT

St. Paul 4, Sioux Falls 2Box

The St. Paul Saints stay red hot as they win their seventh in a row with a 4-2 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries. With the win, the Saints pull within two games of idle Winnipeg in the North Division standings. St. Paul RF Evan Bigley and DH Jake Taylor each had two hits and a stolen base on the night with Bigley driving in two runs. Saints starter Ben Hughes collected the win after allowing no earned runs on seven hits in six innings pitched. For Sioux Falls in defeat, SS Stephen Branca and RF Steven Tinoco had two hits apiece.

Sioux City 7, Gary SouthShore 6Box

Sioux City 1B Rene Tosoni singled home CF Michael Lang with the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Explorers rallied from an early 5-0 deficit and beat the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 7-6. Tosoni and DH Andres Perez combined to go 6-for-8 at the plate with four runs scored and two RBI. Sioux City 3B Tommy Mendonca chipped with a three-hit night and drove in three runs. Explorers reliever Alex Burnett fanned the only batter he faced and earned the win.

Lincoln 4, Amarillo 3Box

With the score tied at 3-3 in bottom of the seventh inning, Lincoln 3B Brandon Pinckney singled home CF Matt Forgatch with the go ahead run as the Saltdogs went on to beat the Amarillo Sox, 4-3. Seven of the nine batters in the Lincoln lineup collected a hit, including Forgatch, who went 1-for-4 and scored two runs. Saltdogs reliever Conor Spink notched his fourth victory on the season as tossed 1 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. Lincoln closer Marshall Schuler struck out the side in the ninth inning and earned his 22nd save of the season, which is tops in the American Association.

Laredo 5, Wichita 4Box

The Laredo Lemurs won their third straight as they edged past the Wichita Wingnuts, 5-4. With the victory, Laredo took 3-of-4 in the series. Lemurs RF Denis Phipps had a terrific game at the plate going 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks and three runs scored. Laredo 3B Harrison Kain chipped in with three hits and three RBI while 1B John Alonso went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Lemurs starting pitcher Josh Strawn won his fifth game of the year as he went six innings giving up two earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts. For Wichita in the loss, RF Carlo Testa went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.
