Laredo 4, Kansas City 0 – Box
Laredo starting pitcher Omar Bencomo and reliever John Brebbia combined on a five-hit shutout as the Lemurs downed the Kansas City T-Bones 4-0. Bencomo went the first eight innings giving up the five hits and striking out five batters. The righty earned the win and improved his record to 2-0 on the season. Brebbia allowed only a walk in the ninth inning. Lemurs 1B Tony Delmonico was the star offensively going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Laredo RF Denis Phipps, 3B Juan Silverio and C Luke Bailey each collected two hits in the contest.
St. Paul 5, Sioux Falls 3 – Box
The St. Paul Saints scored two runs in the eighth inning and one more in the ninth to rally past the Sioux Falls Canaries by the score of 5-3. St. Paul keeps cruising along as they are now a league best 20-3 in the American Association. Saints RF Willie Argo and C Vinny DiFazio led their offense with each going 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI. St. Paul DH Ian Gac and 1B Angelo Songco both had a hit in the contest along with driving in a run. Saints starting pitcher Jeff Shields notched his league leading fifth win of the season. Shields went seven innings giving up three earned runs on seven hits.
Joplin 12, Grand Prairie 1 (7 Innings/Rain) – Box
Joplin scored eight big runs in the fifth inning to break open the game as the Blasters beat the Grand Prairie AirHogs 12-1 in a game shortened to seven innings due to rain. Joplin had four batters with a multi-hit game including RF Jesus Solorzano who went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Blasters LF Steven Tinoco had three hits and three RBI while CF Oscar Mesa collected two hits and plated three runs. Jopin starter Matt Parish went the distance allowing an earned run on six hits with five strikeouts. With the victory, Parish is now 2-1 on the year.
