AUGUST 7 EVENING RECAPS

Laredo 2, Joplin 1- Box 

C Zane Chavez hit an RBI single to break a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning, giving the Lemurs the edge needed in a 2-1 win over the Blasters. 3B Cesar Valera hit a one-out single, and advanced to third when LF Ty Morrison reached on an error. That set up Chavez to deliver the game-winning hit. Previously, Morrison had doubled home Valera in the first for Laredo’s first run. Both Valera and 1B Jesus Posso finished with two hits apiece for the Lemurs in the win.

RHP Ryan Beckman allowed just one unearned run on four hits over six innings, striking out four and earning the win. RHP Jeff Inman completed three shutout innings of relief by tossing a scoreless ninth for the save.

For Joplin, CF KC Huth doubled and scored his team’s only run.

Texas 5, Sioux Falls 0- Box

The AirHogs broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the fifth and went on to claim a 5-0 win over the Canaries. With one out in the fifth, 2B Brian Bistagne, RF Cody Lenahan, and 3B Cory Morales hit three straight singles. C Michael Valdez and CF Michael Hur kept the hit parade going with a pair of RBI singles to drive in Bistagne and Lenahan, respectively. SS Juan Sanchez drove in Morales on a fielder’s choice, pushing the lead to 3-0. DH Leon Byrd added a solo home run in the sixth, and Morales hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Hur, Sanchez and Lenahan led Texas with two hits apiece. LHP David Russo struck out four in five scoreless innings, picking up the win.

For Sioux Falls, SS Blake Schmit collected three of his team’s five hits.

Wichita 3, Lincoln 1- Box

The Wingnuts broke a 1-1 tie with single runs in both the eighth and ninth innings, taking a 3-1 win over the Saltdogs. In the eighth, C Brent Dean drew a bases-loaded hit by pitch to give Wichita the lead, and the Wingnuts grabbed some insurance in the ninth. LF T.J. Mittelstaedt drew a one-out walk, and was doubled home by 1B Matt Chavez. Chavez, DH Brennen Salgado and SS Leo Vargas had three hits apiece for Wichita in the win.

RHP Eddie Medina struck out five in seven strong innings, allowing just one run on two hits and picking up the win. The save went to LHP Frankie Reed, who worked a scoreless ninth.

LF Brandon Jacobs drove in his 19th run of the season for Lincoln in the loss.
