LANG’S GRAND SLAM TIES IT, SAMSON’S SOLO SHOT WINS IT FOR EXPLORERS

Sioux City 10, Gary 9 – Box

The Explorers topped the Railcats 10-9 on Sunday, breaking a tie game in the eighth inning, thanks to a solo home run from SS Nate Samson. Samson finished 2-5 on the day, raising his average to .338 on the year. RF Michael Lang had a huge day at the plate, hitting a grand slam to tie the game in the seventh inning, and picking up five RBIs on the day in the win. C Dylan Kelly collected two hits in the victory, also knocking in two runs at the plate. RHP Kevin McKanna pitched the final three frames in relief for the Explorers, earning the win, his third of the year, while allowing a hit and striking out one. RF Colin Willis homered in the loss, his second long shot of the season. CF Chase Harris also added a homer in the loss, his first blast of the year.

Sioux Falls 6, Cleburne 2 – Box

The Canaries took the series on Sunday, winning their second game in three days against the Railroaders, thanks to a three-run first inning. SS Blake Schmit drove in the first run of the inning on a RBI single, his 13th RBI of the season. Two batters later, 2B Patrick Fiala knocked in two more runs with a single, making the score 3-1. Fiala picked up two more RBIs in the third inning, thanks to a two-run dinger to put the Canaries up 5-1. RHP Bryce Morrow allowed a run in the sixth inning, but the Railroaders did not do any more damage over the final three frames as the Canaries took the game 6-2. Morrow picked up his first win of the season, going six innings, allowing six hits and striking out two while walking a batter. Schmit finished 3-4 with two runs scored and a RBI and Fiala was 2-4 in the win.

Winnipeg 9, Fargo-Moorhead 3 – Box

A four-run fourth inning opened the scoring for the Goldeyes, as they won their fourteenth game of the season on Sunday. 3B Wes Darvill drove in the first run of the game on a RBI single. The Goldeyes added another run on a sacrifice fly and two batters later, they scored the final runs of the inning on a two-run single by LF Josh Romanski. The Redhawks struck back with three runs over the next two innings, but the Goldeyes slammed the door shut by adding five insurance runs in the top of the sixth, en route to a 9-3 victory. DH David Bergin hit his fifth home run of the season in the win. LHP Kevin McGovern went seven innings in the win, his fourth of the year. He allowed three runs on four hits in the contest, while striking out seven batters.

Lincoln 17, Salina 4 – Box

The Saltdogs won their sixth straight game on Sunday, steamrolling the Stockade for 17 runs in the victory. The Saltdogs used home runs from four separate players to help get those 17 runs, as CF Randolph Oduber highlighted the game with his sixth shot of the year. RF Trever Adams hit his fourth homer of the campaign, finishing the game with four RBIs. C Dashenko Ricardo and 3B Christian Ibarra also added homers, their third and first of the season respectively. With all that run support RHP Derek Gordon did not need to be great, but he still managed to pitch a complete game in the victory. He allowed four runs (three earned) over the nine frames while striking out four batters for his first win of 2017.
