GALLAS NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that St. Paul Saints OF Anthony Gallas (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending June 11.

Gallas hit .571 (12-for-21) this week, collecting two doubles, a triple and two RBI.

He began his week on Tuesday in a doubleheader at the Texas AirHogs, and was 2-for-2 with two walks in a 5-0 win in the twinbill opener. Though the nightcap was Gallas’ lone hitless game of the week, the Saints still won 4-0. St. Paul completed the impressive three-game sweep with each win coming via a shutout when the Saints won 10-0 on Wednesday night. Gallas played a key role in the win, as he was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. The Saints traveled from Texas to Kansas City for a three-game series at the T-Bones from Thursday-Saturday, and Gallas’ hot bat made the trip north. He was 3-for-4 with a triple on Thursday night in the series opener, and added another hit in Friday’s game. St. Paul returned to the win column on Saturday with an 8-3 victory, and Gallas again took center stage. He compiled a line of 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

On the season, the Trabuco Canyon, Calif. native is hitting .353 with four doubles, two triples, a home run and 12 RBI. 2017 marks his first season in St. Paul, and second in the American Association. In 2016, Gallas hit .221 with 11 doubles, three triples, 16 home runs and 48 RBI with the Kansas City T-Bones.

Prior to his tenure in the American Association, Gallas spent parts of seven seasons in the Cleveland Indians system, playing as high as the Class AAA Columbus (Ohio) Clippers. Gallas appeared in 36 combined games with Columbus from 2012-2015. He enjoyed a banner season in 2014, hitting .285 with 37 doubles, two triples, and 24 home runs while driving in 80. Gallas spent that season splitting time between the Class A Advanced Carolina Mudcats and the Class AA Akron (Ohio) Rubberducks. Gallas played college baseball for Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.

The Saints return home from a two-week road trip tonight and will host the Sioux City Explorers. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Central time at CHS Field. The series can be seen live and for free at www.americanassociationbaseball.tv.
