KJELDGAARD’S BIG WEEK EARNS HIM PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOD

DURHAM,  NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux City Explorers INF Brock Kjeldgaard (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending June 14.

Kjeldgaard was 11-for-24 in six games this week, and is currently riding a seven-game hit streak. He had three doubles, a triple and three home runs this week to go along with eight RBI.

The London, Ontario, Canada resident started his week on Monday in Amarillo, Tex. against the Amarillo Thunderheads on Monday with a 1-for-5 game that included a triple and a run scored. The Explorers took a 5-4 win in the series opener. A day later, Kjeldgaard went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBI and a run scored in an 8-3 win. Kjeldgaard helped Sioux City sweep the series with an impressive 4-for-5 performance on Wednesday in a 10-9 win. He had a double, two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored in the narrow Sioux City win.

From Amarillo, the Explorers headed home to face the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Kjeldgaard kept up his hot hitting in the return to Lewis & Clark Park, going 1-for-3 with a run scored in Thursday’s series opener. Unfortunately for Sioux City, Winnipeg took the game 3-2 for the Explorers’ lone loss of the week. Kjeldgaard helped the Explorers rally for a 10-4 Friday win with a 2-for-3 performance that included an RBI and a run scored. He closed out his week Saturday with a 1-for-3 game where his lone hit was an RBI double, helping Sioux City to a 6-2 win.

On the season, Kjeldgaard is now hitting .268 with three doubles, a triple and five home runs with 18 RBI. This is Kjeldgaard’s first full season with the Explorers after joining the ballclub in August of 2014. He hit an impressive .358 with seven doubles and three home runs in 14 games last season. Kjeldgaard played in parts of nine seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers system, reaching as high as Class AA Huntsville in the Southern League.

The Explorers will open a home series with the Lincoln Saltdogs tonight at 7:05 p.m. Central time at Lewis & Clark Park.
