Grand Prairie 8, Amarillo 7 (Final – 10 Innings) — Box Score
The Grand Prairie AirHogs walked off on the Amarillo Thunderheads 8-7 as CF Hayden Jennings hit a sacrifice fly to score OF Chris Elder in the bottom of the 10th inning.
After seven innings of play, the Thunderheads were leading 6-2 but the AirHogs put together a five-run rally in the eighth to take a one-run lead. In the eighth, Elder singled to score a pair of runs and later in the inning C Zane Chavez doubled to score three more runs. In the ninth, 1B Rene Leveret doubled to score LF Freddy Flores and tie the score at seven.
Elder had a team-high three hits and two RBI. Chavez went 2-for-4 with three RBI. For the Thunderheads, OF Drew Heid went 3-for-5 with two RBI and both RF Logan Vick and 3B Taylor Smart each added a pair of hits.
Joplin 6, Kansas City 5 — Box Score
The Joplin Blasters scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off on the Kansas City T-Bones 6-5.
Heading into the ninth inning, the Kansas City T-Bones were leading 5-4 and looked poised to end the game with that score line as they retired the first two batters of the bottom of ninth for two quick outs. But CF Oscar Mesa drew a walk and then scored on 1B Carlos Ramirez’ double to tie the score. In the next at bat, 2B Omar Luna ended the game with a single that scored Ramirez. Luna was one of five Blasters to have a two-hit game.
For the T-Bones, SS Vladamir Frias was 2-for-4 with two RBI and CF Robby Kuzdale had a game-high four hits in five at bats. Frias as well as 3B Jake Blackwood and LF Kyle Robinson had home runs for Kansas City.
Sioux Falls 11, Fargo-Moorhead 5 — Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries turned a 6-5 lead into an 11-5 win with a decisive five-run ninth inning in their contest with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
The Canaries racked up 15 hits in the game and seven different batters had multi-hit games. 3B R.J. Perucki had a game-high three hits to lead the way and SS Jerome Pena and DH Tyler Shover each had three RBI. Pena’s two-run home run capped the Canaries big ninth-inning rally. For the RedHawks, SS Zach Penprase and RF Joe Dunigan each left the yard and 1B Joe Bonfe had a team-high two hits.
On the bump, reliever Mike Watt earned the win as he worked the seventh inning where the Canaries erased an early deficit.
St. Paul 8, Winnipeg 1 — Box Score
The St. Paul Saints turned 12 hits into eight runs as they took the first game of their three-game series with the Winnipeg Goldeyes 8-1.
Seven different Saints had at least one hit on the night and three of them had multi-hit games. RF Willie Argo went 3-for-5 with three RBI and C Vince DeFazio also had three hits and a pair of RBI. 1B Angelo Songco went 2-for- with three RBI. The Saints’ pitching staff held the Goldeyes to just three hits on the night.
Starting pitcher Drew Gay was credited with the win for working five innings and allowing one earned run on three hits while recording a pair of strikeouts. Three Saints relievers closed out the game without allowing another hit.
Sioux City 9, Lincoln 1 — Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers got the offense started right away and went on to handle the Lincoln Saltdogs 9-1.
The Explorers scored three runs in the first inning and added five more in the third to grab firm control of the contest. Sioux City added another run in the fifth to take a 9-0 advantage. The Saltdogs scored their only run of the night in the sixth inning when RF Brian Joynt scored on a ground out by 2B Steve Pascual.
For the Explorers, eight different players had hits on the night and five of them had RBI. RF Michael Lang and 3B Rene Tosoni had two hits each and 2B Ryan Court had a team-high three hits.
Trois-Rivieres 8, Laredo 2 — Box Score
The Trois-Rivieres Aigles took an interleague contest with the Laredo Lemurs 8-2 as they blasted 15 hits.
The Aigles scored a run in the first inning as LF Craig Hertler hit a lead-off single and came around to score later in the frame. The Lemurs responded with an RBI single from RF Denis Phipps in the bottom of the inning but the Aigles put up a pair of runs in the second inning and then again in the third to take a commanding 5-1 lead. That margin proved to be enough as Laredo scored just once more on the night.
DH Jon Smith went 4-for-4 with two RBI and CF Steve Brown went 3-for-5 for the Aigles. Laredo’s 2B Abel Nieves had a team-high two hits and the other of the team’s RBI.
