KIRBY-JONES HOMERS TWICE TO LEAD CANARIES

Sioux Falls 9, Gary SouthShore 3Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries jumped out to an early lead with a six-run first inning and held on to claim a 9-3 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats.

1B A.J. Kirby-Jones served as the catalyst for the Canaries offense as he hit the first of his two home runs in the bottom of the first inning to put Sioux Falls ahead 3-0. C Kevin Dultz doubled in a pair of runs later in the inning and then scored when 2B Sam Lind bounced out to second base. Kirby-Jones homered again in the fourth to give him five RBI in the game.

At the plate for the RailCats, 3B Daniel Pulfer had a team-high two hits and drew a walk in four at bats. Starting pitcher Joe Bircher earned the win for the Canaries as he went six innings and allowed three runs on seven hits.

 

Grand Prairie 8, Sioux City 7 Box Score

The Grand Prairie AirHogs took the lead early and fought off a rally from the Sioux City Explorers to win 8-7 on Monday night in Sioux City.

The AirHogs were ahead 5-0 before the Explorers got on the scoreboard. The Explorers put together three run in the eighth to cut the lead to one run but couldn’t draw any closer. Four different AirHogs had two-hit games including LF Jason Botts who went 2-for-2 with three RBI and three bases on balls.

For the Explorers C Todd Jennings led the way at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.

 

Winnipeg 8, Fargo-Moorhead 3 (Game 1 – 7 innings) — Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes took the first game of their Monday doubleheader with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 8-3 behind an impressive five RBI performance from SS Tyler Kuhn.

Kuhn went 2-for-4 in the game as he had an RBI double in the fifth inning and then a grand slam in the sixth to put the Goldeyes squarely out in front.  1B Casey Haerther also had a strong night at the plate as he went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a homerun of his own and LF Donnie Webb added two hits for Winnipeg.

For the RedHawks, both 3B Ronnie Bouquin and C Petey Paramore registered an RBI.

 

Winnipeg 15, Fargo-Moorhead 1 (Game 2 – 7 Innings) — Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes finished off the sweep of their doubleheader with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks with an offensive explosion that ended up in a 15-1 win.

SS Tyler Kuhn added another pair of RBI in the night cap to give him seven RBI for the day and four of his teammates also had multiple RBI in the second game. 3B Josh Mazzola had a game-high three hits and four RBI to lead the way. His production started in the first inning with a solo home run. Both LF Donnie Webb and CF Reggie Abercrombie also had home runs in the game.

Starting pitcher Chandler Barnard tossed a complete game to earn the win. In seven innings of work he allowed just one run on four hits and struck out four batters.

 

Wichita 13, Amarillo 3 — Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts exploded for six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to ensure the victory over the Amarillo Sox 13-3.

Wichita CF Brent Clevlen hit his fourth home run of the season as he went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored. Clevlen also drew a walk in the contest. The bottom four hitters in the Wingnuts order each had two hits and at least one RBI. C Chris McMurray, who hit in the sixth spot, had two RBI.

On the other side, Sox CF Jason Martin went 3-for-4 and both LF Derek Perren and RF Joe Weik added two hits. Starting pitcher Jon Link earned the win for six innings of work in which he allowed three runs on nine hits.
