Winnipeg 5, Kansas City 3 — Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes snatched the lead in the bottom of the first inning and held off the Kansas City T-Bones on their way to a 5-3 win on Tuesday afternoon.
Kansas City struck first in the top of the first inning when 2B T.J. Mittelstaedt scored on a sacrifice fly from 1B David Espinosa. Espinosa went 2-for-3 with an RBI on the night. The Goldeyes responded in the bottom of the frame as 1B Casey Haerther, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the game, singled in a run and LF Ray Sadler followed suit in the next at bat to give Winnipeg the lead.
Though the T-Bones scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning, the Goldeyes never trailed after taking the lead in the first. Starting pitcher Ethan Hollingsworth was credited with the win for allowed three runs on five hits in 6.1 innings.
Gary SouthShore 13, Sioux Falls 5 — Box Score
The Gary SouthShore RailCats took the control of the contest in the first inning and then put the game out of reach with a seven-run eighth inning on their way to a 13-5 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries.
The RailCats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first thanks in large part to a three-run home run from C Craig Maddox. The Canaries bounced back in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back solo shots from 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones and DH Chris Duffy – both of who had two hits in the game. It was the eighth inning that really blew the game open as the RailCats sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on seven hits.
Maddox was 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored to lead the RailCats in all three of those statistical categories. 3B Daniel Pulfer and RF Drew Martinez both added three hits, an RBI and two runs scored.
Wichita 10, Amarillo 5 — Box Score
The Wichita Wingnuts doubled up the Amarillo Sox 10-5 behind a solid performance from their three and four hitters 2B Jake Kahaulelio and C J.T. Wise.
Kahaulelio went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored while hitting his third home run of the season. Wise also went 3-for-5 and added two RBI while tallying his 12th round-tripper of the season. The Wingnuts put up four runs in the first inning and retook the lead with a six-run sixth inning. Wichita held the Sox scoreless for the last three innings to seal the win.
For the Sox, SS Kyle Bellows went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and 3B Kevin Mahoney went 2-for-3 with a game-high four RBI.
Lincoln 12, Laredo 7 — Box Score
The Lincoln Saltdogs never trailed on their way to a 12-7 victory over the Laredo Lemurs on Tuesday night.
Lincoln’s 1B Ian Gac went 4-for-6 with four RBI and three runs scored to lead his team in each of those categories. Leadoff man LF Chad Mozingo also had a strong game at the plate as he went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Both 3B Kevin Howard and CF Matt Forgatch finished the night with two hits apiece. For the Lemurs, C Carlos Ramirez went 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Starting pitcher Justin Kuks picked up the win as he went six innings and gave up just two earned runs.
Sioux City 7, Grand Prairie 3 — Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers put together a late surge to claim the lead and defeat the Grand Prairie AirHogs 7-3.
The Explorers were trailing 3-2 heading into the top of the eighth inning but that deficit was quickly erased. Three of the Explorers’ four eighth inning runs came on a home run from 3B Amos Ramon. Ramon went 2-for-4 in the game and had two runs scored to go with his three RBI. The Explorers added another run in the bottom of the ninth to push the advantage out to the final margin. For the AirHogs, three different batters had two hits including 3B Abel Nieves who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Reliever Geoff Broussard picked up the win for his work in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Broussard kept the AirHogs off the board while allowing just two hits.
Fargo-Moorhead 10, St. Paul 5 — Suspended
The Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks were leading the St. Paul Saints 10-5 when the game was suspended because of a power outage. The game will be completed before Wednesday’s regularly scheduled game.
