JONES’ DOUBLE IN THE 11TH HELPS RAILCATS BEAT MILKMEN

Gary SouthShore 3, Milwaukee 2 (11 Innings) – Box Score

Designated hitter Raymond Jones doubled home RF Colin Willis with the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th inning as Gary SouthShore defeated Milwaukee, 3-2.

After a scoreless inning of action, the RailCats grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second as Jones singled home SS Andy DeJesus from third base. Gary SouthShore would increase their advantage to 2-0 in the fifth when CF Evan Marzilli came around to score on a base hit by Willis. The Milkmen would cut the deficit to 2-1 in the sixth when 1B Glen McClain launched his first home run of the season.  The contest stayed the same until the eighth when Milwaukee tied the score up at 2-2 on a DH Dan Ward RBI single. The game headed into extra innings where the RailCats won it on the Jones hit in the 11th.

Willis went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI while Jones had a pair of hits in six at-bats and two RBIs.

Gary SouthShore pitcher Felix Carvallo tossed three scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory. The southpaw allowed only a hit and struck out three in the 10 batters he faced. Carvallo is now 1-1 on the year.

 

St. Paul 5, Texas 4 – Box Score

St. Paul 2B Josh Allen and 3B Chesny Young launched back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and carry the Saints to a 5-4 victory over Texas.

The duo went a combined 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored and five RBIs. Allen also belted another home run in the contest, this one a three-run shot in the second inning. Along with Allen and Young, DH Burt Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a run scored while 1B Brady Shoemaker contributed a hit in three at-bats and a run.

St. Paul starting pitcher Jake Matthys allowed three earned runs over seven innings of work and notched the victory. The righty gave up a walk and nine hits while fanning three batters. With the win, Matthys is now 5-1 on the season.

For the AirHogs in the losing cause, CF Brett Eibner had a 2-for-3 night with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 5, Sioux Falls 2 (10 Innings) – Box Score

The red-hot Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks won their seventh consecutive game as they defeated Sioux Falls in 10 innings by the score of 5-2.

After two scoreless innings to start off the contest, the Canaries jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third as SS Andrew Ely came home to score on an RBI single by CF Brett Vertigan. Fargo-Moorhead would immediately respond in the fourth as CF Devan Ahart tripled home 3B Leobaldo Pina and tied the contest up at 1-1. The score would stay that way until the sixth when DH Chris Jacobs launched a solo home run to give the RedHawks a 2-1 advantage. Sioux Falls tied the game back up at 2-2 in the eighth when 3B Mitch Glasser hit a solo shot of his own, his second of the season. The contest would eventually go into extra innings when the RedHawks plated three runs in the top of the 10th via a SS Yhoxian Medina single and a two-run blast from RF Tim Colwell. The Canaries tried to rally in the bottom of the inning but left runners on first and second to end the ball game.

Colwell went 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs while Medina and 2B TJ Bennett each collected a pair of hits and a run.

Fargo-Moorhead reliever Joe Filomeno tossed two innings of relief and notched his second win of the season. Filomeno gave up an earned run on four hits and struck out one.

 

Kansas City 8, Chicago 6 – Box Score

Kansas City scored in four of the first five innings to grab a 7-2 lead and would off a rally by Chicago to win by an 8-6 final.

The T-Bones banged out 14 hits in the contest with every batter in the lineup collecting at least one. Kansas City DH Christopher Colabello led the way at the plate going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. T-Bones LF Dylan Tice added three hits in five at-bats along with a run scored while SS Shawn O’Malley and 2B Ramsey Romano each picked-up a pair of hits. Third baseman Taylor Sparks also helped the T-Bones offense by launching a two-run blast in the second inning.

T-Bones starting pitcher Erik Manoah threw five innings and notched the big victory. The 23-year-old gave up three earned runs on four hits and fanned two batters. Manoah his now 2-0 on the season.

For the Dogs, RF Victor Roache went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI.
