Kansas City 2, Fargo-Moorhead 1 – Box
Kansas City LF Joe Jackson launched a two-run home run in the fourth inning to give the T-Bones the lead for good as they defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks by the score of 2-1. Jackson had a pair of hits on the night with two RBI while DH Kevin Keyes had a 1-for-4 game and plated a run. Kansas City starting pitcher Matt Sergey threw five innings in his first outing of the season and nabbed the victory. Sergey gave up an earned run on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. The bullpen was solid for the T-Bones tonight as Gabe Perez, Grant Sides and Cody Winiarski tossed four innings of scoreless relief and fanned a combined four batters. Winiarski earned his sixth save.
Wichita 11, Salina 4 (Game 1 – 7 Innings) – Box
In the first game of a doubleheader, the Wichita Wingnuts scored nine runs over the fifth and sixth innings to blow open the contest and defeat the Salina Stockade, 11-4. Wichita collected 16 hits as a team with six batters having multi-hit games. Wingnuts DH Brent Clevlen went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI while C Zac Fisher had a pair of hits, including a home run, and five RBI. Wichita leadoff hitter Harrison Kain and 2B Christian Stringer chipped in a combined six hits and five runs. Wingnuts starting pitcher Ryan Kussmaul tossed a terrific six inning performance and notched his fourth win of the season. Kussmaul gave up two earned runs on just three hits with a walk and 14 big strikeouts.
Wichita 6, Salina 4 (Game 2 – 7 Innings) – Box
Wichita scored five runs in the second inning to jump ahead 5-0 and would go on from there to complete the doubleheader sweep and win game two, 6-4 over Salina. The Wingnuts had 11 hits in the contest and was led by C Martin Medina who went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Wichita had two other batters with a multi-hit game including 2B Christian Stringer and RF Richard Prigatano who each had three hits. Stringer had a total of six hits and three runs scored in the doubleheader. Wingnuts starter Eddie Medina gave up four earned runs over five innings pitched and nabbed his fourth win of the year. Medina allowed six hits and struck out five. With the victory, Wichita has now won five straight and has a league best record of 23-10.
Winnipeg 5, Lincoln 2 – Box
The Winnipeg Goldeyes scored three runs over the final two innings to pull away late and defeat the Lincoln Saltdogs by a 5-2 score. Winnipeg leadoff hitter Andrew Sohn led the way offensively going 1-for-2 with three walks and three runs scored. Goldeyes LF Josh Romanski and 3B Wes Darvill each chipped in a pair of hits while 1B Shawn Pleffner drove in two runs in a 1-for-3 night. Winnipeg starting pitcher Kevin McGovern threw 7 1/3 solid innings and picked-up league lead tying fifth win. McGovern allowed two earned runs on eight hits and struck out seven batters. For Lincoln in the losing effort, LF Brandon Jacobs went 3-for-4.
Texas 4, Cleburne 2 – Box
Designated hitter Jake Taylor hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to give Texas a 3-1 lead and that proved to be the difference in the game as the AirHogs beat the Cleburne Railroaders by a 4-2 final. Taylor had a pair of hits on the night with a RBI while CF Trevor Sealey went 2-for-4 with a seventh inning solo home run. Texas starter Carlos Contreras gave up only an earned run over 6 1/3 innings of work to grab his first win of the year. Contreras allowed two walks and three hits to go along with seven punchouts. For Cleburne, CF KC Huth had a 1-for-4 game with a triple and a RBI.
