HERRON, REDHAWKS WIN EIGHTH STRAIGHT

Fargo-Moorhead 6, Cleburne 2 – Box

The Redhawks won their eighth straight game on Sunday, topping the Railroaders thanks to a four-run third inning that broke open a 1-1 game. RF K.D. Kang walked with the bases loaded to bring in the first run of the inning and was followed by 3B Josh Mazzola who also walked in a run. The third run of the inning scored on a wild pitch and C Charlie Valerio knocked in the fourth run with a RBI single to make it 5-1. The Redhawks added another run in the fourth to make it 6-1 and the game remained at that score until the ninth when the Railroaders scored their second run of the contest. However, it was not enough as the Redhawks went on to win 6-2. RHP Tyler Herron earned the victory, pitching seven innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits and striking out four batters to earn his fifth win of the year. CF KC Huth was 1-2 and knocked in both of the Railroaders runs in the loss.

Winnipeg 4, Kansas City 3 (Final – 11 innings) – Box

It took extra innings to decide the series finale between the Goldeyes and T-Bones before the Goldeyes emerged victorious 4-3 to salvage their only win of the series. SS Wes Darvill provided the winning run, scoring from third on a wild pitch in extra innings. CF Reggie Abercrombie had a big night in the win, hitting his 10th home run of the year and knocking in two runs. 2B Jerome Pena homered for the T-Bones in the loss. RHP Ryan Chaffee earned the win, going 1.1 innings and allowing a run on two hits while striking out two batters. He was relieved for the final two outs in the 11th by LHP Evan Rutckyj who proceeded to get the next two batters out for the win. It was Rutckyj’s first save of the season.

Lincoln 8, Wichita 2 – Box

The Saltdogs swept the Wingnuts on Sunday to win their third straight game and their ninth game in their last ten contests. In the third, 3B Matty Johnson broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run blast, his third home run of the year. In the fourth, the Saltdogs scored four more runs, including a solo home run from RF Randolph Oduber. The Saltdogs added another run in the fifth and the Wingnuts failed to score again until the ninth when it was too late. The Saltdogs went on to win 8-2 to pick up their 39th win of the year. RHP Derek Gordon emerged victorious, throwing six one-run innings and striking out seven batters to earn his sixth win of the year.

Sioux City 3, Gary Southshore 1 – Box

The Explorers won the series finale to improve their record to 30-29 on the year. The Explorers took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the third. In the fourth, the Railcats tied the game on a wild pitch. Neither team scored again until the seventh, and then the Explorers picked up two runs in the seventh and eighth innings to make it a 3-1 game. LHP Kramer Sneed earned the win, pitching six innings, allowing a run on six hits and striking out four batters. LHP Hobbs Johnson pitched 2.1 scoreless innings to earn the save.
