HERNANDEZ TOSSES COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT

Winnipeg 10, Sioux City 0 (Doubleheader Game Two- 7 innings)- Box

LHP Nick Hernandez (pictured), the American Association Pitcher of the Month for June, tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout. Hernandez allowed three hits and one walk and struck out seven. All nine Goldeyes starters collected hits in the game, with CF Reggie Abercrombie going 3-for-4 and five other players collecting two hits each.

C Luis Alen hit a two-run home run in the second inning for the Goldeyes, his fourth of the season. Abercrombie hit a three-run shot in the Goldeyes’ four-run sixth, his 11th home run of the season.

RF Michael Lang was 2-for-3 for the Explorers.

Winnipeg 6, Sioux City 2 (Completion of Suspended Game from 8/5)- Box

The Goldeyes finished off a win against the Explorers by pounding out 14 hits and scoring five runs in the fifth inning. 1B Casey Hearther hit a three-run home run in the inning, driving in RF Josh Mazzola, who had hit an RBI double, and SS Tyler Kuhn, who singled behind Mazzola. The blast was Hearther’s 11th of the season. Kuhn and 2B Brock Bond had three hits each for the Goldeyes.

2B Andres Perez was 2-for-3 in the game for the Explorers.

LHP Gabe Aguilar struck out three in two innings for the Goldeyes to earn the win. The save went to LHP Brendan Lafferty, who struck out four in three scoreless, hitless innings.

Wichita 4, Fargo-Moorhead 3- Box

Two eighth-inning runs for the Wingnuts gave them a road win over the RedHawks. 2B Jake Kahaulelio led off with a single, and the second batter of the frame, 1B David Espinosa, hit the go-ahead two-run homer. Kahaulelio had hit a solo homer of his own in the top of the first inning and drove in the Wingnuts’ second run on an RBI single in the third. He was 3-for-4 on the night, one of three Wingnuts with multiple hits. 3B Chris McClendon and RF David Amberson had two hits each.

2B CJ Retherford was 2-for-4 for three RBI for the RedHawks, and CF Nic Jackson had two hits as well.

RHP Daniel Bennett earned the win in relief and the save went to LHP Alex Hinshaw, who struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth.

Lincoln 8, Gary SouthShore 6- Box

The RailCats attempted to rally with three runs in the ninth, but the Saltdogs held on for a road win in the series finale. Lincoln plated seven runs in the top of the fourth inning. 2B Luis Nunez hit a two-RBI double, CF Jon Gaston followed with a two-RBI single and All-Star DH Ian Gac hit his 17th home run of the season, a two-run shot to cap the scoring in the frame.

Nunez was 4-for-5, with Gaston 3-for-4. Gac and SS Mike Gilmartin both had two hits.

SS Danny Pulfer had four hits for the RailCats, including a double and two RBI and DH Cody Bishop was 2-for-3. Pulfer and C Ryan Babineau had two RBI each.

RHP Zach Varce tossed seven innings for the win, striking out three. RHP Marshall Schuler struck out a batter as he earned the save.

Amarillo 7, Sioux Falls 6 (10 innings)- Box

The visiting Canaries scored four runs in the top of the tenth, but the Sox one-upped them with five in the bottom of the lone extra inning. 3B Travis Weaver hit the walk-off single to plate C Jeff Farnham, capping the comeback. 2B Geraldo Valentin also drove in two with a single in the 10th.  Weaver opened the scoring by doubling home Valentin in the bottom of the first. Valentin also scored the second run for Amarillo on a single from LF Joe Weik in the fifth.

Valentin, Weaver and Weik had three hits each. CF Chris Valencia was 3-for-4 with a home run for the Canaries. C Matt Hitt also homered for Sioux Falls.

The win went to LHP Ryan Rogers in relief.

Grand Prairie 4, Laredo 3- Box

With three runs in the bottom of the ninth, the AirHogs completed a comeback to win the series finale against the Lemurs. With one out, 3B Abel Nieves drew a bases-loaded walk to trim the deficit to 3-2. DH Jason Botts tied the game with an RBI single, and LF Bryan Myrow won the game with a walk-off single.

SS Jimmy Mojica was 3-for-5 for the AirHogs. Nieves was 2-for-4. For Laredo, 1B John Alonso, RF Denis Phipps and 3B Travis Denker had two hits each. Alonso hit his 15th home run of the season in the game.

RHP Ty’Relle Harris earned the win in relief for Grand Prairie.

St. Paul at Kansas City- Postponed

The game between the Saints and T-Bones was postponed due to rain. The two clubs will play a doubleheader on Friday, August 29 at 6:05 p.m. Central time at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
