AIRHOGS WALK OFF ON LEMURS IN EXTRA FRAME

Grand Prairie 5, Laredo 4 – Final/10 Innings  Box Score

The Grand Prairie AirHogs walked off on the Laredo Lemurs 5-4 in extra innings on Tuesday night at QuikTrip Park.

The Lemurs scored to take the lead in the top of the tenth on a sacrifice fly from RF Denis Phipps. In the bottom of the tenth 2B Abel Nieves scored on a double from LF Brian Myrow to tie up the score. After the Lemurs intentionally walked C Vince DeFazio, Myrow scored on an error by the catcher for the game-winning run.

Myrow and Nieves were two of six AirHogs batters to have two hits in the game. Included in that group was SS Jimmy Mojica who went 2-for-5 with a game-high two RBI. For the Lemurs, CF Nick Van Stratten went 4-for-6 and DH Byron Wiley went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

 

Wichita 4, Fargo-Moorhead 3Box Score

The Wichita Winguts snagged a 4-3 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the top of the ninth thanks to an RBI single from RF David Amberson.

The game was tied at three heading into the final inning and the Wingnuts were down to their final out when Amberson singled. C Chris McMurray, who reached base on a walk earlier in the innings, scored on the play. Reliever Matt Nevarez came in to work the bottom of the ninth and sat the RedHawks down in order to earn the save.

McMurray, along with CF Brent Clevlen and LF Jake Luce, had two hits, an RBI and a runs scored. For the RedHawks, eight of the nine batters in the order had at least one hit and DH Sawyer Carroll went 2-for-4.

 

St. Paul 5, Kansas City 0Box Score

The St. Paul Saints allowed just three hits as they shutout the Kansas City T-Bones on their way to a 5-0 win.

Saints starting pitcher Drew Gay went 7.1 innings and allowed those three hits and struck out six batters in the winning effort. Reliever Dan Sattler earned the save as he closed out the last five outs without allowing a hit and striking out three batters. The Saints took the lead with a run in the second inning but pulled away in the top of the ninth with four runs.

RF Keith Brachold opened up the ninth with a solo home run and 2B Jared McDonald added two more with a double later in the inning. McDonald scored when 1B Angelo Songco singled. Brachold was one of three Saints to have two hits in the ball game.

 

Lincoln 9, Gary SouthShore 8 – Final/12 Innings  Box Score

On Monday night, the Lincoln Saltdogs and the Gary SouthShore RailCats were suspended in the 11th inning with the score tied at seven. On Tuesday they resumed play and the Saltdogs put up a quick two runs and claimed a 9-8 win in 12 innings.

Saltdogs SS Mike Gilmartin blasted a two-run home run that scored 3B Brandon Pinckney to put Lincoln in front in the top of the 12th. In the bottom of the extra frame 3B, Wally Backman led off the inning with a walk and then scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly from CF Drew Muren but the rally ended in the next at bat when DH Daniel Pulfer hit a comebacker to the pitcher.

Gilmartin had a game-high four hits – two of which were home runs – and three RBI in six at bats and 2B Luis Nunez added three hits and an RBI. Six different RailCats had two hits in the contest.

 

Lincoln 4, Gary SouthShore 3Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs scored in the top of the ninth inning to edge the Gary SouthShore RailCats 4-3 and win their third game of the four-game series.

The score was tied at three heading into the ninth inning after the Saltdogs walked in the tying run in the bottom of the eighth. Lincoln responded in the top of the ninth when LF Matt Forgatch singled, stole second and then scored when 2B Luis Nunez singled in the next at bat. Reliever Marshall Schuler came in to pitch the bottom of the inning and allowed one hit but sat the last three down in order to seal the win and the save.

Forgatch and Nunez each had a team-high two hits for the Saltdogs and for the RailCats, RF Drew Martinez also had a team-high two hits.

 

Amarillo 8, Sioux Falls 5Box Score

The Amarillo Sox put up five runs in the seventh and eighth innings to claim an 8-5 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries.

The Sox took the lead in the first inning with three runs but the Canaries tied things up by the fourth inning and took the lead in top of the seventh.  In the bottom of the seventh, LF Joe Weik tripled home three runs and then scored on the next play when 1B Andres Rodriguez singled. Weik had a team-high three hits in the game and Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The Sox added another insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. For the Canaries, 3B Carlos Mendez and 2B Sam Lind each had two hits.

 

Winnipeg 5, Sioux City 2 – Suspended/5 Innings

The Winnipeg Goldeyes were leading the Sioux City Explorers 5-2 in the top of the fifth inning when rain suspended play. The game will be resumed on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Central Time before their regularly scheduled game. Wednesday’s game will be 7 innings.
