DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Winnipeg Goldeyes LHP Nick Hernandez (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 30.
Hernandez made two starts this week for Winnipeg, picking up two wins. On Monday, he shut out the Can-Am League’s Trois-Rivieres Aigles. Hernandez scattered four hits and struck out eight in seven innings as the Goldeyes won 4-0.
He took the mound again on Saturday against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and threw seven innings, striking out four and walking only one as the Goldeyes won 5-4.
On the season, the former University of Tennessee Volunteer is 4-0 with a 3.56 ERA in eight games, all starts. In 48 innings, he has struck out 42 opposing hitters and only walked eight.
The Goldeyes will conclude their series with the RedHawks today with a 5:00 p.m. Central time doubleheader.
