HENRY’S HUGE GAMES REWARDED WITH PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOD

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux Falls Canaries OF Jabari Henry (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending June 18.

Henry hit .438 (14-for-32) this week, collecting two doubles, three home runs, and 11 RBI. Nine of his 14 hits came in two memorable games, a 4-for-5 game Thursday against the Gary SouthShore RailCats, and a 5-for-6 game Sunday at the Cleburne Railroaders.

The Orlando, Fla. native began his week on Monday at home against the RailCats. Though the game was his only hitless contest of the week, Henry picked up an RBI and scored two runs in an 8-2 win. He went 3-for-3 on Tuesday, collecting another RBI and two more runs scored as Sioux Falls won again 5-2. The Canaries won again on Wednesday, a 4-3 victory in which Henry went 1-for-5. His first monster game of the week came Thursday in the series finale against the RailCats, when he was 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, two RBI, and a run scored in a 6-5 Canaries loss. Henry carried his hot bat with him to Cleburne, Tex. for the weekend, as the Canaries played the Cleburne Railroaders in a three-game set. In Friday’s series opener, a 7-5 Sioux Falls win, Henry went 1-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored. Henry drove in another run on Saturday, part of a 1-for-5 game in a 6-3 win. The Canaries swept the series with a 7-5 win Sunday, and Henry played a huge role. He was 5-for-6 in the win, hitting a double and a home run, while driving in four runs and scoring one.

Henry is now hitting .349 on the season, and has four doubles, four home runs and 13 RBI. He is in his first season in the American Association following a five-year stint in the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners systems. He played as high as Class AA, spending the 2015 season with the Jackson (Tenn.) Generals in the Mariners system and 2016 with the Arkansas Travelers in the Angels system.
