Cleburne 5, Texas 4 – 10 Innings — Box Score

The Cleburne Railroaders earned a 5-4 extra-inning win against the Texas AirHogs thanks to an RBI-single from 1B Geraldo Valentin in the top of the 10th.

Valentin’s single was his only hit of the night and it scored 2B/RF Mitch Glasser, who was hit a pitch in the lead-off spot. The Railroaders had six hits in the win, one each from four batters including Valentin and two from C Blake Grant-Parks. Grant-Parks tripled in a run in the fifth and singled home another in the sixth. The AirHogs held an early lead before Cleburne scored a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Texas tied things back up at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth when RF Denis Phipps, who went 3-for-3 with two RBI, scored on a single from SS Beamer Weems.

Reliever Cortland Cox (1-1) earned the win for working the ninth and striking out two batters and reliever Winston Abreu picked up his eighth save for shutting the door in the bottom of the tenth.


Lincoln 7, Winnipeg 4 — Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning with four runs and shut the door in the ninth to claim a 7-4 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

The Goldeyes took a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth when 1B Shawn Pleffner singled home CF Reggie Abercrombie but an RBI single from C Dashenko Ricardo in the home half of the frame tied the score. Later in the inning, 2B Cesar Valera singled to center and it prompted an error from the Goldeyes. Three Saltdogs scored on the play, including Ricardo, to take the 7-4 lead. In top of the ninth, reliever Michael Wagoner sat the Goldeyes down in order to earn the save.

For the game, Valera went 3-for-5 with two RBI and Ricardo went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. For the Goldeyes, Abercrombie went 2-for-4 with a double and his fifth home run of the season. Pleffner also had a pair of hits.


Kansas City 7, Fargo-Moorhead 4 — Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones turned 14 hits into seven runs on their way to a 7-4 win against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

Four of those Kansas City runs came in the pivotal eighth inning. The RedHawks took a 4-3 lead in the top of the inning when 3B Josh Mazzola hit a solo home run, his fifth of the year. In the bottom of the inning, SS Eddie Newton singled home Joe Jackson to tie things back up and later in the inning back-to-back RBI singles from CF Omar Garcia and 2B Marcus Lemon pushed the T-Bones in front. In the next at-bat, Garcia scored when DH Kevin Keyes reached on an error. Reliever Cody Winiarski retired the RedHawks in order in the ninth to pick up the save.

For the RedHawks, K.D. Kang went 2-for-4 with a home run and for the T-Bones, Jackson went 4-for-4 and Lemon went 3-for-5.


Wichita 11, Salina 3 — Box Score

Powered by a six-RBI game from 3B T.J. Mittlestaedt, the Wichita Wingnuts moved past the Salina Stockade 11-5.

The Wingnuts racked up 16 hits in the game and Mittelstaedt had four of them and three of them were home runs. 2B Christian Stringer also had a four-hit game, scoring three times and adding a pair of RBI. The Wingnuts opened the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as they turned a 4-3 lead into a 9-3 with a five-run inning that included a three-run shot from Mittelstaedt.

Starting pitcher Tyler Kane (5-1) went seven innings in the winning effort, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out four. Salina C Cody Coffman had a strong game at the plate as he homered twice to give the Stockade four RBI. LF Jimmy Heck added a 2-for-3 performance for Salina.


St. Paul 10, Sioux Falls 2 — Box Score

On the strength of a four-RBI night from RF Danny Oh and a six-run seventh inning, the St. Paul Saints topped the Sioux Falls Canaries 10-2.

Three of Oh’s four RBI came on a home run in the top of the pivotal seventh, scoring both CF Tim Colwell and C Maxx Garrett who each had two hits of their own. Oh finished the day 2-for-4. DH Tanner Vavra, hitting in the No. 2 spot behind Oh, had a team-high three hits and he also scored a run. Starting pitcher Mark Hamburger (5-1) went the distance on the bump for an American Association record 15th time in his career. He allowed two earned runs on eight hits and struck out six batters.

For the Canaries, 2B Brett Marr and C Aaron Gretz each had a pair of hits on the night.


Sioux City at Gary SouthShore – Postponed/Weather

The game between the Sioux City Explorers and the Gary SouthShore RailCats has been postponed due to weather conditions. The contest will be made up tomorrow (June 20) as a part of a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
