HAMBURGER’S COMPLETE GAME LIFTS SAINTS TO WIN

St. Paul 3, Fargo-Moorhead 1 – Box

A sensational pitching performance by St. Paul starter Mark Hamburger leads the Saints to a 3-1 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Hamburger tossed a 106 pitch complete game giving up an earned run on seven hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. The righty is now a perfect 9-0 on the season, which is tops in the American Association. Saints SS Tanner Vavra and RF Breland Almadova each had 2-for-4 nights at the plate while CF Alonzo Harris hit his 11th home run of the season. For Fargo-Moorhead in defeat, CF Kes Carter had two doubles and a RBI.

Laredo 8, Texas 3 – Box

The Laredo Lemurs tallied seven big runs in the seventh inning to overcome a 3-1 deficit and defeat the Texas AirHogs by the score of 8-3.  Four Laredo hitters had multi-hit games including LF Ty Morrison who went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Lemurs RF Denis Phipps and CF Drew Martinez each had 2-for-5 nights at the plate with a run scored and two RBI while 1B Jesus Posso had three hits and a run batted in. Laredo pitcher Luis Pollorena tossed 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to notch the victory. Pollorena is now 2-0 on the year.

Winnipeg 6, Sioux Falls 1 – Box

Winnipeg starting pitcher Duke Von Schamann tossed eight solid innings in helping the Goldeyes to a 6-1 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries. Von Schamann earned his fourth win of the season as he allowed an earned run on seven hits with two walks and five punchouts. Offensively for Winnipeg, 2B Casio Grider went 3-for-4 with four RBI and hit a home run for the third straight game. Goldeyes CF Reggie Abercrombie tallied two runs and 3B Wes Darvill had two hits and two runs scored. Sioux Falls DH Jake Taylor scored the team’s only run of the contest.

Wichita 5, Gary SouthShore 4 (10 Innings) – Box

Wichita CF Harrison Kain singled home RF Richard Prigatano with the game winning run in the top of the 10th inning as the Wingnuts rally past the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 5-4. Gary SouthShore had a 4-3 lead going into the ninth only to see Wichita score a run to tie it at 4-4 and then win it in the 10th on the Kain single. Six hitters had multi-hit games for the Wingnuts, including Prigatano who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Wichita SS Leo Vargas had two doubles, a run scored and a RBI while 2B Christian Stringer had a pair of hits and plated a run. Wingnuts pitcher Frankie Reed tossed two scoreless innings to collect his fourth win of the year. Reed gave up two hits and two walks in his outing. The victory by Wichita was their ninth straight.

Sioux City 4, Kansas City 1 – Box

Sioux City CF Matty Johnson hit a two-run home run in the third inning to give the Explorers an early lead and they would go on to win by the score of 4-1 over the Kansas City T-Bones. Johnson had a pair of hits on the night along with three RBI and LF Tim Colwell had a 4-for-5 game with a run scored. Sioux City starting pitcher Cody Forsythe threw eight solid innings in earning his fourth victory. Forsythe allowed an earned run on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts. For Kansas City in defeat, LF Starlin Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a RBI.

Lincoln 7, Joplin 3 – Box

The Lincoln Saltdogs rolled out to a 6-0 lead after two innings of play and cruised to a 7-3 victory over the Joplin Blasters. With the win and the Gary SouthShore loss, Lincoln moves back into sole possession of first place in the Central Division. Saltdogs RF Jon Smith went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI while leadoff hitter Robby Kuzdale had two hits, two walks and scored a run. Lincoln starter Matt Larkins tossed eight sharp innings en route to his sixth win of the year. Larkins gave up two earned runs on eight hits and struck out six batters.
