Winnipeg 4, Fargo-Moorhead 3 – Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes (21-14) held off the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 4-3 on Thursday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
RF Correll Prime (2-for-4) started the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI double to take the lead for the RedHawks. The Goldeyes tied the score in the third when CF Johnathan Moroney scored as LF Jordan George reached on an error but the RedHawks moved back in front when DH Drew Ward (2-for-4) singled home Prime in the fourth.
A sac fly in the sixth from 1B Kyle Martin tied the game again and C John Nester gave Goldeyes their first lead in the bottom of the seventh. 2B Darnell Sweeney (2-for-3) added an important insurance run in the eighth as he singled to score George. 1B Alex Crosby (3-for-4) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth to bring RedHawks within one but closer Victor Capellan struck out the next batter to end the game with the tying run on base.
Milwaukee 4, Chicago 3 – Box Score
A three-run jumpstart pushed the Milwaukee Milkmen (20-16) past the Chicago Dogs 4-3 on Thursday at Impact Field.
In the top of the first, the Milkmen loaded up the bases for 2B Dylan Tice (2-for-4) who singled home CF Brett Vertigan. In the next at-bat, RF Zach Nehrir (2-for-3) singled to right field to let LF Logan Trowbridge (2-for-5) and 3B Jose Sermo score. The Dogs rallied to tie with an RBI double from 2B Blake Allemand (2-for-4) in the second and a two-run homer from Allemand in the fourth but the Milkmen took control in the fifth. Tice singled with two outs, stole second and scored when Nehrir singled for what turned out to be the game-winning run.
Starter David Holmberg (5-1) earned the win after throwing seven innings and allowing three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. Reliever Peyton Gray worked the ninth to earn his ninth save of the year.
St. Paul 9, Sioux Falls 7 – Box Score
The St. Paul Saints (18-18) toppled the Sioux Falls Canaries 9-7 behind strong offensive performances from C Chris Chinea and 1B John Silviano.
Chinea went 3-for-5 in the game with four RBIs; one in the first with a single, two more in the seventh with a double and another RBI single in the eighth. Silviano also went 3-for-5 including an RBI single in the third and a critical two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning. The Canaries rallied in the bottom of the ninth by loading up the bases and drawing three straight two-out walks but a bounce out to first base ended the game.
For the Canaries, RF Mike Hart went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs including his fourth homer of the year and Damek Tomscha went 2-for-5.
