Winnipeg 8, Cleburne 7 – Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes (4-1) rallied from an early four-run deficit and held off a late surge to top the Cleburne Railroaders 8-7.
The Railroaders (3-2) moved out in front with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run home run from 3B Chase Simpson (2-for-4, 4 RBI). Cleburne added two more when SS Jared Reaves and RF Hunter Clanin both scored after a single from C Logan Trowbridge (2-for-4). But the Goldeyes came roaring back in the fifth as DH James Harris (2-for-4) blasted a three-run home run and back-to-back run scoring singles from LF Josh Romanski (2-for-5) and RF Willy Garcia put Winnipeg in front. Romanski scored in the next at-bat thanks to an error.
3B Wes Darvill (2-for-4, 3 runs) scored in the sixth as C Kevin Garcia grounded out to add to the lead but 1B Kenny Meimerstorf answered in the bottom half with a solo home run. Darvill scored what proved to be a crucial run in the eighth on an error to give Winnipeg a three-run lead.
Simpson homered again in the ninth, his third of the year, to pull the Railroaders within one but a ground out to first base in the next at-bat ended the contest.
Milwaukee 5, Fargo-Moorhead 3 – Box Score
The Milwaukee Milkmen (3-2) took the first game of their three-game set with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 5-3 Monday evening at Newman Outdoor Field.
The RedHawks (1-3) drew first blood when 3B Leobaldo Pina (2-for-5) doubled home 1B Chris Jacobs in the bottom of the first and then added to the lead in the fifth as LF Brennan Metzger (2-for-5) scored when Jacobs bounced into a double play. The Milkmen responded in the sixth as they capitalized on a pair of Fargo-Moorhead errors. LF Adam Walker (2-for-4) scored when RF Teodoro Martinez reached on an error and 1B Garrett Copeland scored when 3B Jose Rosario bounced into a fielder’s choice.
The Milkmen took the lead as SS Sam Dexter (2-for-4) scored on an error by the pitcher and Milwaukee never relinquished. Dexter singled home 2B Cesar Valera in the next inning to push the lead to two runs. The Redhawks pulled back within a run when CF Devan Ahart drew a bases-loaded walk but the Milkmen added an insurance run in the top of the ninth.
Sioux Falls 18, Texas 6 – Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries (2-3) scored at least two runs in six different frames on their way to an 18-6 win against the Texas AirHogs.
The Canaries saw hits from all nine batters in the order and racked up 24 for the game including eight doubles and a triple. Leadoff batter CF Brett Vertigan led the way as he went 5-for-7 and scored three times. Both RF Clint Coulter and C Adrian Nieto recorded four RBIs in the game and Nieto went 4-for-6. 2B Jordan Ebert went a perfect 5-for-5 at the dish and added three runs scored and an RBI. 3B Mitch Glasser also pitched in three RBIs on two hits in addition to four runs scored.
Texas was led by SS Josh Prince who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. 3B/SS Luo Jinjun also had two hits in the game to go along with a run and an RBI. CF Han Xiao had a team-high two RBIs.
Starting pitcher Alex Boshers picked up his first win of 2019 with a six-inning outing in which he allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out four batters.
Lincoln at Kansas City – Postponed (Rain)
The game between the Lincoln Saltdogs and the Kansas City T-Bones was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21, as a part of a doubleheader set to begin at 5:30 p.m. Central Time.
