GOLDEYES EXPLODE FOR 16 IN WIN

Winnipeg 16, St. Paul 5- Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes’ offense exploded in a 16-5 win over the St. Paul Saints on Thursday.

The Goldeyes collected 16 hits and walked eight times in the contest. Dave Sappelt (1), Josh Romanski (1) and Josh Mazzola (6) all clubbed home runs for Winnipeg.

Alex Boshers (2-3) was awarded the win after limiting the Saints to five runs in 7.1 innings of work.

Brady Shoemaker went 4-for-4 at the plate for St. Paul while scoring two runs.

With the win, Winnipeg improved to 17-15 over while the Saints fell to 19-13.

 

Wichita 3, Sioux Falls 2- Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts topped the Sioux Falls Canaries 3-2 on Thursday.

Both teams scored in the first inning, the Canaries scored on an RBI single by David Bergin in the top of the frame and the Wingnuts scored on a sacrifice fly by Tony Thomas in the bottom of the frame. Wichita took a lead in the the next inning with RBI single by Logan Watkins to score Logan Trowbridge who reached on an error to start the inning.

John Nester extended the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double. Sioux Falls cut the lead to one in the eighth inning, but the scoring stopped there.\

Casey Harman (4-1) earned the win after giving up just one in six innings of work. Daniel Tillman was awarded the save (9).

With the win, Wichita improved to 20-12 overall, while Sioux Falls fell to 11-20.

 

Sioux City 2, Fargo-Moorhead 1- Box Score

Fargo-Moorhead 4, Sioux City 3- Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks split a doubleheader on Thursday.

The Explorers  took game one 2-1 in extras.

The game was tied 0-0 at the end of the seventh, but the RedHawks scored Derrick Fox on a two out RBI double in the top of the eighth to take a 1-0 lead.

Sioux City responded by scoring two on a single by Nate Samson to end the game.

Taylor Jordan (5-1) pitched the entire game for the Explorers, giving up just three hits in the one run effort.

The RedHawks took game two 4-3.

Fargo-Moorhead led 4-0 after getting RBI singles by Devan Ahart, Brandon Metzger and Tim Colwell in the first three innings as well as a Leobaldo Pina run on an error in the top of the fifth.

Sioux City scored two in the next inning on back-to-back RedHawks errors. The lead was then cut to one when Jose Sermo (3) hit a solo home run, but Randy McCurry settled down to earn his ninth save.

After the doubleheader, the RedHawks are (16-15) and the Explorers are (24-9).
