AIRHOGS RIDE THE LONG BALL TO 4-3 WIN

Texas 4, Chicago 3 – Box Score

The Texas AirHogs slid past the Chicago Dogs 4-3 on Wednesday evening at Impact Field.

The AirHogs struck first in the opening inning as RF Stewart Ijames (2-for-5) scored on a 1B Correlle Prime (2-for-4) single. RF Jonathan Moroney (2-for-4) tied the score in the bottom of the first as he stole home. LF Tony Rosselli (2-for-4) gave Chicago the lead in the next inning with a solo home run but 2B Casio Grider leveled things in the top of the fourth with a lead-off roundtripper.

LF Dillon Thomas plated what turned out to be the game-winning runs with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth.

Chicago rallied in the ninth, cutting the lead to just one run as 3B Matt Dean doubled home CF Joe Benson with one out. But reliever Carlos Contreras came on to pitch after the RBI and closed out the game with a pair of strikeouts, earning the save in the process.

 

Lincoln 5, St. Paul 4 (Game 1 – 7 Innings) – Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs erased a 4-0 deficit to claim a 5-4 win in the first game of their Wednesday doubleheader with the St. Paul Saints.

St. Paul took the early lead with a run in the first and three more in the top of the second but the Saltdogs started climbing back in the bottom of the frame as 3B Chase Simpson scored as 1B Nathaniel Maggio bounced out. In the third, Lincoln tied the game as 2B Cesar Valera singled to plate C Dashenko Ricardo (2-for-3) and later scored on a single by CF Angel Reyes (2-for-3). In between, Simpson lifted a sac fly. RF Randolph Oduber scored the eventual game-winning run in the fourth as Valera grounded out.

On the mound, starting pitcher Michael Tamburino went the distance in the winning effort, giving up four runs on seven hits and striking out 10 batters.

For the Saints, LF Kyle Barrett had a team-high three hits.

 

St. Paul 6, Lincoln 0 (Game 2 – 7 Innings) – Box Score

The St. Paul Saints bounced back in the second game of their doubleheader with the Lincoln Saltdogs and claimed a 6-0 win.

Starting pitcher Eddie Medina tossed a complete game, three hit shutout as he earned the win. He walked just two batters and struck out one. Offensively, the Saints moved in front in the top of the second thanks to a three-RBI triple from 3B JJ Gould. Gould added another RBI in the top of the fourth with a single and the Saints pushed two more runs across in the fifth with RBI singles from 1B Brady Shoemaker (2-for-4) and C Dante Bichette Jr. (2-for-4).

For the game, RF Max Murphy had a team-high three hits and he also scored a run.

 

Gary SouthShore 8, Cleburne 1 – Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats held the Cleburne Railroaders to just one run on four hits as they strolled to an 8-1 win on Wednesday at U.S Steel Yard.

Starting pitcher Alex Gunn earned the win for working seven innings and allowing the one run – an RBI groundout from LF Cameron Monger in the fifth – on three hits while striking out three batters. The win moves the lefty to 4-2 on the season and leaves his ERA at an even 3.00.

Offensively, the RailCats took control with a five-run sixth inning. 2B Cole Fabio (2-for-4) doubled home C Andy Paz to start the rally and then he and LF Reggie Wilson (2-for-3) both scored as SS Andy DeJesus (2-for-5) singled to left field. 3B Randy Santiesteban (2-for-4) tripled home DeJesus in the next at-bat and then scored on a RF Colin Willis single to put the RailCats comfortably in front.

 

Wichita 6, Sioux Falls 3 – Box Score

With three runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh, the Wichita Wingnuts doubled up the Sioux Falls Canaries 6-3.

The two sides traded runs in the first two innings before things opened up in the fifth. Sioux Falls edged in front as C Aaron Gretz scored after CF Jordan Smith reached base on a fielder’s choice. Later in the inning, Smith scored (unearned) as LF Chris Grayson (3-for-4) singled. But the Wingnuts came right back in the bottom of the inning as DH Logan Watkins (2-for-5) tripled home two runs and then scored on a sac fly from CF Zach Nehrir (2-for-3).

Wichita added two insurance runs in the seventh as Nehrir doubled home Watkins and then he scored on his own when 1B Fernando Perez singled to left field.

 

Kansas City 6, Winnipeg 3 – Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones topped the Winnipeg Goldeyes 6-3 with the help of strong night from 3B Zach Walters.

Walters scored the first run of the game in the second inning after he hit a leadoff single and then came across the plate when C Tucker Pennell grounded out. That lead was erased by a solo home run from CF Reggie Abercrombie (2-for-4) in the bottom half of the inning but Walters’ three-run home run in the top of the next inning game the T-Bones the lead for good.

DH Dave Sappelt doubled in a pair of runs in the sixth to pull the Goldeyes within a run but 2B Dylan Tice (2-for-5) had an RBI double in the seventh and then scored when 1B Nick Torres (2-for-3) doubled later in the inning.

 

Fargo-Moorhead at Sioux City – PPD/Rain

The game between the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and the Sioux City Explorers has been postponed due to rain. The contest will be made up tomorrow, Thursday, June 21, as a part of a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 5:35 p.m. Central Time.
