Winnipeg 2, Gary SouthShore 1 – 15 Innings — Box Score
In the top of the 15th inning, RF David Rohm singled to score LF Adam Heisler and break a 1-1 tie, giving the Winnipeg Goldeyes a 2-1, extra-inning win against the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
The game was tied after nine innings thanks to a fourth-inning solo shot from CF Reggie Abercrombie and a third-inning RBI from 1B Alex Crosby. For the game, Heisler and SS Maikol Gonzalez both went 3-for-7 to lead the team. For the RailCats, who had just six hits in the game, both DH Jeremy Hamilton and CF Brennan Metzger registered a pair of hits.
Both starting pitchers, Duke Von Schamann and Charle Rosario had strong appearances as they both allowed just one run in eight innings. Von Schamann gave up just two hits. Reliever Brandon Shimo earned the win for working the final two innings.
Lincoln 10, Texas 8 — Box Score
The Lincoln Saltdogs erased a two-run deficit in the final inning thanks to a three-run double from 3B Tyler Urps and went on to claim a 10-8 win against the Texas AirHogs.
Urps, who was 2-for-3 in the game with four RBI, came up with the bases loaded and belted out a double that plated three runs including the eventual game-winner. Reliever Evan Reed came on in the bottom of the ninth and allowed a single but no further damage and sealed the save.
The AirHogs scored seven of their eight runs in the second inning and that included a three-run double from CF Michael Hur. For the game, 17 of 18 batters had at least one hit and Texas 1B Devon Rodriguez had a game-high three.
Sioux City 21, Fargo-Moorhead 9 — Box Score
Before their fireworks after the game, the Sioux City Explorer’s bats exploded for 21 runs on 22 hits as they beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 21-9.
Nine different Explorers tallied hits in the game, led by DH Derrick Robinson who went 5-for-6 and score five times. Two different Explorers – SS Nate Samson and INF Matt Koch – had five RBIs in the game. Both Samson (4-for-4) and Koch (2-for-6) homered in the game and Koch’s was an eighth inning grand slam.
For the RedHawks, CF Kes Carter went 4-for-5 with an RBI and SS Josh Mazzola went 2-for-5 with a grand slam of his own.
Wichita 7, Laredo 1 — Box Score
The Wichita Wingnuts jumped out to an early lead and never trailed on their way to a 7-1 win against the Laredo Lemurs.
1B Matt Chavez and CF Harrison Kain got things started in the second inning with a pair of RBI doubles and Chavez followed up in the third with a three-run home. Kain also added a home run of his own – a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. The Lemurs found the scoreboard in the top of the eighth as SS Alvaro Rondon scored on a single from LF Leandro Castro but the Wingnuts matched that run in the bottom of the inning with a RBI double from LF T.J. Mittelstaedt.
Starting pitcher Tim Brown earned the win for tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing five hits and striking out a pair of batters.
Kansas City 7, Sioux Falls 5 — Box Score
The Kansas City T-Bones held off the Sioux Falls Canaries 7-5 to take the first game of their three-game set.
Five T-Bones had multi-hit games and two of them had a trio of hits on the night. 1B Jake Blackwood went 3-for-5 and score twice and C Brian Erie went 3-for-4. 2B B Wiley had just one hit but it was a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning.
For the Canaries RF J.C. Linares went 2-for-4 with two RBI and DH Jake Taylor hit his fifth home run of the year.
St. Paul 9, Joplin 2 — Box Score
Starting pitcher Mark Hamburger improved to 8-0 on the year after his complete-game performance paved the way for a 9-2 win for the St. Paul Saints over the Joplin Blasters.
Hamburger allowed just two runs, one in the second and another in the seventh, on eight hits and he did not issue a walk. He also struck out four batters. Just four Blasters recorded hits in the game, including DH Edwin Gomez, who went 3-for-4 with a home run.
For the Saints, 2B Alonzo Harris went 3-for-4 and hit a fourth-inning grand slam.
