CASTRO NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Laredo Lemurs’ OF Leandro Castro (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending July 3rd.

After batting .459 (17-for-37) with nine runs scored, three home runs and eight RBI, Castro is on an eight game hitting streak entering play tonight. The Santo Domingo, D.R. native’s week began with a 2-for-4 performance with one home run in a 12-5 loss at Sioux City. In a 9-3 win on June 30 over Joplin, Castro blasted his second home run of the year going 3-for-6. Yesterday, he went 5-for-6 with another home run to lead the Lemurs to a 12-0 win over the Texas AirHogs. Currently, Castro is batting .379 with three home runs.

From 2007-2014, Castro played in the Philadelphia Phillies organization reaching the AAA level in 2013 where he batted .256 with eight home runs and 55 RBI. 2016 is his first season with Laredo.

The Lemurs will be back in action tonight when they travel to Wichita to take on the Wingnuts. First pitch from Lawrence Dumont Stadium is set for 7:05 PM. Select American Association games can be watched live for free on American Association TV.
