MOORHEAD, MINN. – The Lincoln Saltdogs have sold the contract of RHP Michael Blazek to the Washington Nationals organization, the American Association announced Saturday, May 11. Blazek is the 17th American Association player to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization in 2019, and the 37th since the start of the 2018 season.
Blazek signed with the Saltdogs in April after spending 2018 in the Arizona Diamondback organization. The former major leaguer’s last big league season was in 2017 with the Milwaukee Brewers. Blazek also made major league appearances with Milwaukee in 2016, 2015, and 2013, going 8-6 while posting a 4.15 ERA across 97 relief appearance, one start and 112.2 innings of work.
The former Las Vegas native made his professional debut in 2007 after being drafted in the 35th round of the MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. Blazek spent seven seasons in the Cardinals’ minor league ranks before making his major league debut with the club on June 22, 2013.
